Support the classroom teacher in fostering a joyful, safe, and effective learning environment for all students. Instructional Assistants at Raleigh Oak Charter School serve as essential members of our educational team, working directly with students and staff across grade levels. Their role includes instructional support, classroom preparation, behavior guidance, and school-wide supervision and coverage when needed.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred
- Previous experience working with children or in a school setting is highly desirable
Performance Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement engaging instructional activities in alignment with lesson plans.
- Work with small groups or individual students to reinforce learning concepts and support skill development.
- Prepare and organize classroom materials and educational resources under the guidance of the teacher.
- Assist with maintaining a clean, welcoming, and organized classroom environment.
- Support positive student behavior and provide supervision in all school settings including classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and lunch areas.
- Provide behavioral guidance and monitor safety during transitions, recess, and other school activities.
- Assist in organizing and facilitating school-wide events and activities.
- Perform clerical duties including creating, maintaining, and filing classroom documentation.
- Communicate positively and respectfully with students, staff, and families to build supportive relationships.
- Provide classroom and school coverage, including substituting in other grade levels as needed or supporting building-wide supervision to ensure continuous learning and safety.
- Attend meetings and training as required; actively engage in professional development provided by the school.
- Carry out any additional duties as assigned by the teacher or school administration.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of child development and effective strategies for supporting student learning and behavior.
- Ability to support a range of learners across multiple subject areas and grade levels.
- Proficiency in basic academic skills including reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Capable of learning and supporting the principles of Public Waldorf Education, including whole-child development, outdoor learning, and the integration of the arts.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, stay organized, and manage time effectively.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and a team-oriented mindset.
- Willingness to adapt and grow through coaching and feedback.
Minimum Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
- Must be able to perform light physical work, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in dynamic and changing environments, sometimes under moderate stress.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to problem-solve and think critically in real-time situations.
- Basic data recording and analysis skills.
