Unarmed Security Officer – Cannabis Dispensary
Position Overview
The Unarmed Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for customers, employees, and property at a licensed cannabis dispensary. Officers will provide visible
deterrence, enforce site policies, monitor access control, and respond to incidents while maintaining a professional and customer-service-oriented presence. Security Officers must remain compliant with California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) regulations and follow all company and client security procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Access Control & Entry Screening

Monitor and control entry points to the dispensary.

Verify customer identification to ensure compliance with California cannabis age requirements

(21+ or valid medical recommendation).

Prevent unauthorized individuals from entering restricted areas.

Maintain orderly customer flow and ensure compliance with site occupancy limits when

applicable.
Patrol & Surveillance
-
Conduct regular foot patrols of the interior and exterior property.

Monitor parking areas and surrounding perimeter for suspicious activity.

Observe and report safety hazards, suspicious behavior, or policy violations.

Maintain a visible presence to deter theft, loitering, and disruptive behavior.
Incident Response
-
Respond to disturbances, safety concerns, or suspicious activity.

De-escalate confrontational situations using professional communication and conflict resolution

techniques.

Contact local law enforcement or emergency services when required.

Assist management during emergencies or evacuations.
Customer Service
-
Provide a professional and welcoming presence for customers entering the facility.

Offer basic guidance regarding entry procedures and store policies.

Maintain respectful communication with customers, staff, and vendors.
Compliance & Policy Enforcement

Enforce dispensary policies including:

No loitering
-
No consumption on premises
-
No weapons inside the facility
-
Compliance with cannabis regulations
-
Support management with regulatory compliance requirements when necessary.
Reporting & Documentation

Complete accurate daily activity reports and incident reports.

Document suspicious activity, safety hazards, or enforcement actions.

Maintain clear communication with dispatch, supervisors, and management.
Closing Procedures

Assist with closing procedures including securing entrances and exits.

Ensure all customers have exited the premises before closing.

Conduct final security checks of the property.
Minimum Qualifications

Valid California BSIS Guard Card
-
Minimum 18 years of age
-
High school diploma or GED preferred
-
Strong communication and conflict resolution skills

Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations
