Baker Veterinary Clinic is seeking an individual that will be able to handle being dual trained in our Reception and Hotel Assistant (Pet Care Taker) areas. You will spend some days working in reception and others in Kennel. Below you will find a little information about what is expected of both positions.
Receptionists (who are also called customer service representatives or client-relations specialists) are the customer-relations experts in a veterinary practice. They are the clients’ first impression of the practice, on the phone or in person. Receptionists must possess strong organizational skills, excellent telephone and in-person communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Receptionists must have compassion for animals and their owners and understand the stress that patients and clients endure.
Receptionists are responsible for greeting clients by knowing who is coming in next and which pet they are bring in; differentiating routine cases from emergency cases; scheduling appointments; entering client, patient, and financial data into the computer; generating some invoices and explain them to client; processing payments; and managing the retrieval and storage of medical records.
This position requires the completion of a high-school degree or further education, competence in the English language, patience, and a pleasant manner. Ideally, newly hired receptionists will possess computer skills and have had cashier and related front-office work experience.
Necessary Skills:
- When Possible, keep a street map readily retrievable, and be able give directions to the practice.
- Know the range of services the practice provides and the species it treats.
- Be reasonably familiar with breeds and coat colors.
- Follow OSHA standards. Be able to find Material Safety Data Sheets quickly.
- Know standard medical and business abbreviations.
- Use proper medical terminology when speaking and writing.
- Fluently speak and write the English language.
- Preferred but not required: Spanish - speak, read and write.
- Understand the life cycle and pathology of common parasites (intestinal parasites, heartworms, fleas, ticks), and know the names of most common preventatives, recommended treatments, and diagnostics.
- Be familiar with zoonotic (contagious) diseases, including their prevention and steps to reduce or eliminate transmission.
- Communicate with clients about the various pet-identification systems available, including tags, tattoos, and microchips.
- Know the policies regarding provision of veterinary care, treatment of stray animals, deposits for hospitalized patients, payments, credit, pet health insurance, and finance fees.
AND for PCT
This person needs to also be someone that will take better care of our patients and borders than their own. Hotel can be a busy and fast paced area and you must exhibit some but not limited to the following skills:
- Ability to complete tasks on a timely matter and very self motivated
- Ability to handle a variety of sizes/breeds of dogs, cats, pocket pets, birds and some exotics safely and comfortably
- Maintain standards of safety and cleanliness
- Provide routine daily care of our patients
- Ability to lift 50 lbs or less on your own
- Be able to bend/squat/stand thought the day
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- feeding/watering Pets
- medicating pets of all species
- kennel cleaning and housekeeping
- exercising animals on a timely schedule
- bathing pets of all species when needed
- keeping up with laundry
- cleaning and sanitizing pet's dishes
- keeping up with Hospital Maintenance and Cleaning
- pet waste pickup and Cleaning of the yards
- hospital trash collection and disposal
- collecting specific client's instructions for their pets care
Schedule will Vary:
- MUST BE ABLE TO WORK FULL DAYS
- 8am - 6pm during the week
- 8am - 5pm weekends
- Work week is Sunday - Saturday
- Full time is 35-40 hrs
- Part time is under 34 hrs
- Weekends are Rotated but not guaranteed
- Holidays are Rotated but not guaranteed
At times we may need you to help with care and cleaning of surgical instruments and equipment. Restrain animals for treatment and examination, Assist with various laboratory procedures, Execute our cleaning and disinfecting protocols.
Must have reliable transportation.
Dependability is a must; frequent call-outs and tardiness will be grounds for termination.
