Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating specialized horizontal directional drilling equipment to install underground utilities with precision and efficiency. Your expertise will help ensure safe, accurate, and timely utility installations across various construction sites. Responsibilities
- Operate horizontal directional drilling machines to install underground utilities such as water, sewer, gas, and electrical lines with accuracy and safety.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of construction machinery, including excavators, loaders, backhoes, and water trucks, ensuring optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Utilize utility locating tools and techniques to identify existing underground infrastructure before drilling operations commence.
- Follow all federal construction safety regulations, equipment safety procedures, and site-specific safety protocols to maintain a secure work environment.
- Assist with excavation and construction grading activities as needed, supporting the overall project workflow.
- Coordinate with team members to plan drilling paths and troubleshoot operational issues promptly.
- Maintain detailed records of equipment usage, maintenance logs, and project progress reports.
Skills
- Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, Caterpillar machinery, and water trucks.
- Strong mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting and performing basic repairs on construction machinery.
- Knowledge of construction utility work including excavation techniques and construction site safety standards.
- Familiarity with federal construction safety regulations and equipment safety procedures to ensure compliance at all times.
- Ability to perform construction grading accurately using heavy equipment.
- Skilled in utility locating methods to prevent damage to existing underground infrastructure.
- Valid commercial truck driving license with experience in commercial truck driving is preferred.
- Construction site experience with a focus on utility installation projects is highly desirable.
