TERRA AZUL Azores Whale Watching & Wildlife Tours is seeking enthusiastic and committed ocean lovers to join our learn-at-work experience program. As a Intern, you will have the chance to work closely with our experienced team, participate in ecotourism activities, and receive training in wildlife and whale watching, designed to provide you with hands-on experience and opportunities for skill development in ecotourism guiding.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting and assisting in organizing eco-friendly tours and activities.
- Engage with tourists and provide them with information about the local ecosystem and wildlife.
- Contribute to the development of marketing materials and content for promotional purposes.
- Participate in the planning and execution of educational programmes and activities.
- Collaborate with our team to maintain and improve our eco-friendly standards, including collecting observation data for scientific projects, photo-identification and other initiatives.
- Adhere to company policies and guidelines, including safety protocols and ethical conduct.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance your knowledge and skills in ecotourism.
- Assisting in regular business operations and other assigned tasks.
Specific Qualifications:
- Deckhand boat license (e.g. Basic RYA Powerboat, Marinheiro).
- Car driving license (B) valid for Europe. Must be comfortable driving a minivan with a small client group.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Enthusiasm for nature, ecotourism, and sustainable travel.
- Public speaking skills (e.g., onboard guiding, briefings, and debriefings), and the ability to feature in social media content and media productions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including a passion for sharing knowledge and the ability to connect with the team and clients.
- Ability to work effectively, both in a multicultural group and independently, carrying out assignments to completion within the parameters of given instructions and general routines/practices.
- Proficiency with PC/Microsoft Office (Word, Excel…).
- Good physical and emotional condition to withstand working multiple hours at sea in varying sea and weather conditions, to act as “deckhand mate” (incl. handling ropes and monitoring onboard safety), and to perform key responsibilities of the volunteer/internship.
- Ability to remain calm and deal with people under stressful and demanding situations.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Availability to commit to the programme for the specified duration, following a 40-hour workweek with a rotational schedule (including weekends, holidays and late shifts until 8 pm).
Preferences:
- Background or education in Marine Biology, Environmental Studies, Science, Guiding & Tourism, or related subjects.
- Additional language proficiencies (preferably German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or Dutch).
- Photography, video or social media skills are a plus.

- Monthly pocket money allowance of 475€.
- Compensation of 50% of flight costs incurred for the purpose of participating in the internship.
