The Drumline Instructor is responsible for designing, implementing, and leading a comprehensive after-school marching band program for middle school students at the Dana Middle School site. This role focuses on musical instruction, marching fundamentals, performance readiness, and youth development. The instructor will develop engaging lesson plans, rehearse students for performances and events, and foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages teamwork, discipline, and creativity.
The Drumline Instructor serves as a liaison between the regular school day, the after-school program, and the music department, maintaining clear communication with school staff, students, parents, and community partners regarding rehearsals, performances, and program expectations.
What You'll Do
- Create, implement, and lead drumline rehearsals and music instruction
- Teach marching fundamentals, musical technique, and performance etiquette
- Prepare students for performances, parades, and special events
- Promote and encourage student participation and consistent attendance
- Develop age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with program goals
- Use positive youth development techniques to support student growth
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and positive role modeling for students
- Maintain and help manage instruments, equipment, and music materials
- Collect and complete all required program documentation
- Ensure students’ safety and supervision during rehearsals and performances
- Collaborate with program staff to support overall site activities
- Work closely with the Dana Middle School Band Director
What You Bring
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Experience working with middle school–aged youth
- Background in marching band, music instruction, or instrumental performance preferred
- Strong ability to motivate students and manage behavior positively
- Skills in planning and leading engaging music and performance-based programs
- Ability to organize, supervise, and inspire students in a group setting
- Strong communication skills and comfort working with families, staff, and the public
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, move equipment, and participate in marching activities
- Ability to safely operate, transport, and care for musical instruments and equipment
- CPR/First Aid certification (provided upon hire)
- Must complete all pre-employment clearances (see below)

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Onsite at designated work location (standalone Clubhouse or school site) involving indoor and outdoor activities
- Ability to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Ability to project voice with sufficient volume to be heard while addressing groups
- Sufficient visual acuity to read printed materials, observe youth in a group setting, and ensure a safe and engaging environment
