Job Title: Purchasing & Inventory Specialist
Company: Lannon Tank Company, LLC
Location: Lannon, WI
Reports To: Plant Manager / Director of Operations
Job Overview
Lannon Tank Company is seeking a sharp, hands-on Purchasing & Inventory Specialist to lead our supply chain and material tracking. This is not a "desk-only" order entry role. Because our specialized fabrication shop utilizes visual inventory management alongside our JobBoss (E2) ERP system, you will split your time between strategic office negotiation(80%) and the production floor(20%) to maintain 100% material accuracy.
In this role, you will physically audit material levels, issue inventory to jobs, and aggressively negotiate pricing on steel and components. Note: This position is responsible for inventory tracking and system accuracy; with proper training, you may be required to help physical material handling or operating forklifts to unload trucks.
Key Responsibilities
- Visual Inventory Audits: Regularly walk the production floor to visually inspect material racks, plate inventory, fitting bins, coatings, fiberglass and hardware storage to verify physical counts match JobBoss data.
- JobBoss Inventory Control: Take ownership of inventory accuracy by issuing materials to active shop floor jobs, tracking scrap/drops, and correcting system discrepancies.
- Heavy Material Procurement: Review custom tank requirements to purchase steel plate, structural shapes, tank heads, fittings, and specialized coatings exactly when needed.
- Supplier Negotiation: Secure alternative vendor options and aggressively negotiate raw material pricing, volume contracts, and freight costs to protect company margins.
- MRO & Consumable Tracking: Manage and optimize visual stocking systems (like Kanban or min/max levels) for welding wire, gases, plasma torch consumables, and safety gear to prevent costly shop stockouts.
- Expediting & Alignment: Monitor vendor lead times, fast-track delayed orders, and communicate directly with production supervisors to ensure materials are floor-ready before fabrication begins.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3–5 years of purchasing, material planning, or inventory control experience within a metal fabrication, structural steel, or tank manufacturing environment.
- Inventory Expertise: A strong background in inventory accuracy, visual management systems, cycle counting, and inventory auditing is highly preferred.
- ERP Mastery: Practical experience using JobBoss (formerly E2 ShopTech) or a comparable manufacturing MRP/ERP system.
- Blueprint Competency: Ability to read engineering bills of materials (BOMs) and submittal prints to ensure accurate component ordering.
- On-the-Floor Presence: Comfort working in a fast-paced heavy industrial manufacturing environment, balancing desk work with active floor time.
Join us as a Purchasing Inventory Specialist to be a key driver of operational excellence—empowering our supply chain while advancing your career in a fast-paced manufacturing environment!
