Nature of Work
This position is critical to meeting FDA contract and grant requirements. The Rapid Response Team Coordinator is responsible for managing all foodborne illness environmental health investigations in partnership with the Bureau for Public Health (BPH) Division of Epidemiology and Local Health Departments.
Key Responsibilities
Rapid Response Team (RRT) Coordination & Leadership
- Chair and Coordinate: Serve as the West Virginia Foodborne Illness Rapid Response Team (RRT) Coordinator and Chair, taking responsibility for coordinating all team meetings and activities.
- Meeting Oversight: Hold bi-annual meetings for the WV RRT team and attend both regional and national Face-to-Face Meetings.
- Financial Management: Manage the expenses of any grant dollars associated with the RRT.
- Outbreak Response: Coordinate responses to foodborne and feed-borne illness outbreaks.
Inter-Agency Preparedness & Collaboration
- Emergency Preparedness: Serve as an Office of Environmental Health Services (OEHS) member of the Center for Threat Preparedness response team. Complete all training necessary for emergency response, as required.
- Epidemiology Tracking: Attend the weekly Division of Epidemiology Outbreak Meeting.
- Specialized Response: Serve as an active member of the Legionella outbreak response team.
Training, Inspection, & Education
- Establishment Inspections: Conduct all training for and inspection of manufactured food establishments throughout the state as assigned.
- Team & Local Training: Plan and implement training for local health departments and members of the Rapid Response Team.
- Sanitarian Training: Assist in coordinating Food Training for Sanitarians throughout the state, as assigned.
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
AND
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a sanitarian.
OR
Substitution: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in public health, environmental science, chemistry, biology, physical science or agriculture may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Special Requirements: Must be licensed as a registered sanitarian by the West Virginia State Board of Sanitarians or be eligible to be licensed with the Board per the Reciprocity section of the Practice of Public Health Sanitation, W. Va. Code R. §20-4-4 et seq. Must possess a valid driver's license. Availability of an automobile for continuous use may be a requisite for employment.
