Job Summary
The IT Department Manager is responsible for leading the organization's technology operations by overseeing IT infrastructure, managing IT staff, and ensuring the security, reliability, and effectiveness of all technology systems. This role provides both strategic leadership and hands-on technical support for manufacturing operations, business applications, and end users. The IT Department Manager leads IT projects, serves as the escalation point for complex technical issues, and partners with departments across the organization to implement technology solutions that improve business performance.
Key Responsibilities
IT Strategy & Operations
- Oversee daily IT operations, including system performance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the security, availability, and integrity of IT systems, networks, servers, and business applications.
- Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, disaster recovery plans, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve efficiency and support business growth.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, mentor, and support IT staff while fostering a collaborative, customer-focused environment.
- Manage department priorities, workloads, training, and performance to ensure effective service delivery.
Technical Support & Systems Administration
- Serve as the escalation point for complex hardware, software, network, and ERP-related issues.
- Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of IT hardware, software, servers, networks, user accounts, and business systems.
- Monitor system performance, perform preventative maintenance, maintain system documentation, and implement technology improvements that minimize downtime and support business operations.
ERP & Project Management
- Support ERP systems and manufacturing applications through troubleshooting, upgrades, integrations, and process improvements.
- Lead IT projects, including infrastructure upgrades, system implementations, cybersecurity initiatives, and process automation.
- Coordinate project resources, vendors, budgets, and timelines while collaborating with department leaders to deliver effective technology solutions.
User Support & Collaboration
- Ensure timely and effective technical support for employees through training, documentation, and technical guidance.
- Serve as the primary liaison between IT and other departments, communicating technical information clearly and identifying technology solutions that support organizational goals.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Five or more years of progressive IT experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, networking, virtualization, servers, and enterprise infrastructure.
- Experience supporting ERP systems and manufacturing environments preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware, software, network, and business application issues.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity, backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning, and IT best practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing multi-site IT operations and multiple concurrent projects.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical support in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
