Weston Hospital’s Emergency Department features multi-disciplinary care teams and state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and treat patients effectively, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department operates in a fast-paced environment, providing rapid, expert care for time-sensitive conditions such as sepsis and stroke. As a Paramedic, you will provide immediate medical treatment to patients presenting with various critical injuries, illnesses and concerns. In this role, fast thinking and processing are essential, as every second counts in an emergency. Your tireless efforts help improve outcomes and make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, their families and your fellow caregivers.
A caregiver in this role works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with weekend requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Maintain equipment.
Assess nature and extent of illness/injury and patient's history from available sources.
Determine appropriate independent or collaborative response.
Administer appropriate emergency medical care, including life support procedures, decontamination protocols, obtaining EKG readings and vital statistics monitoring.
Perform fluid/drug administration as needed.
Communicate with medical personnel at hospital, report/record observations and follow directives until report and hand-off at hospital if on the Transport Team.
Navigate Ambulance to scene of accident in response to emergency call if on the Transport Team.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program
Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Associate (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross upon hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department
Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic Training Program
Newborn Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six months of hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate degree in EMS
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
Current Valid Driver's License (VDL)
Three years of experience as an EMT or Paramedic
Experience in emergency room, Fire Rescue, etc., or other critical care transport
