Southern Plains Education Cooperative is seeking a full-time, year-round Head of Buildings and Grounds to oversee the maintenance, safety, and overall operation of Cooperative buildings, building systems, equipment, and grounds.
This position serves as a working lead/supervisor by providing day-to-day direction to custodial staff, coordinating facility needs and projects, maintaining safety and compliance requirements, and ensuring Cooperative facilities are clean, safe, and operating efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily building operations, maintenance, repairs, groundskeeping, snow/ice response, and facility needs.
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, boiler, and building automation systems as applicable.
- Develop, implement, and track preventative maintenance plans and schedules.
- Provide day-to-day direction, training, scheduling support, supervision, and evaluation of custodial and maintenance staff.
- Coordinate custodial schedules, room setups, deep cleaning, and facility preparation for meetings, trainings, school activities, and special events.
- Work with the Executive Director and Business Manager to support the buildings and grounds budget, purchasing, contracts, vendors, and the 10-year facility plan.
- Maintain required safety documentation, coordinate inspections, lead Health and Safety Committee meetings, and ensure required drills and emergency plans are completed and documented.
- Communicate regularly with administration regarding building needs, staffing needs, safety concerns, projects, and facility priorities.
- Work cooperatively with staff, students, administrators, vendors, contractors, and the public.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in custodial work, facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related field preferred.
- Supervisory or lead worker experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- 2nd Class C boiler’s license preferred, or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, and work cooperatively as part of a team.
Working Conditions
This is a full-time, year-round position. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may include exposure to a variety of weather conditions. The position requires flexibility, including occasional early morning, evening, weekend, or emergency response needs.
The position requires walking, standing, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving materials or equipment. Heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
