You will operate at the intersection of cutting-edge engineering and complex commercial ecosystems, tackling first-of-their-kind legal challenges. Scaling Next-Gen Products: Providing mission-critical counsel for the launch and global scaling of products and services in our consumer ecosystem.

Driving Strategic Mobility Initiatives: Supporting high-stakes, complex transactions that advance our AI and autonomy investments, SDV monetization, and global collaborations—including long-term strategic partnerships.

Architecting Commercial Frameworks: Contribute to and leverage foundational legal structures for e-commerce, hardware/software licensing, cloud/data transactions, and automotive partnerships to allow Rivian to move fast and disrupt the status quo.

As Counsel, Product and Commercial, you will report to the Associate General Counsel for Consumer Products and Sales and will work cross-functionally with stakeholders to:
Rivian Consumer Products and Services

Cultivate trusted relationships with internal business teams and play a critical role in ensuring the compliance and legal integrity of, and supporting product launches for, our evolving suite of products, including consumer software products, motor vehicle accessories, merchandise, and charging.

Advise on all aspects of retail and internet-based retail transactions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Ensure compliance of Rivian's products and sales processes with key regulations such as FTC rules and guidelines, including Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act on Unfair, or Deceptive Acts or Practices, Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations, consumer protection laws and more.

Review and advise on product marketing and sales initiatives.

Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with our client partners, safeguarding Rivian's interests.

Develop and deliver engaging training programs and materials for vehicle salespersons, equipping them with a clear understanding of their compliance obligations.

Collaborate with software design and engineering teams to ensure Rivian's software and third-party partnerships adhere to all relevant legal requirements for consumer sales.

Proactively develop and manage legal and regulatory resources, including knowledge repositories, policies, processes, and guidelines, to support Rivian's expanding commercial footprint.

Rivian Technology and Mobility Initiatives

As needed, help manage and negotiate technology transactions and draft agreements applicable to Rivian artificial intelligence, hardware and software development, software licensing and initiatives fundamental to growing Rivian’s product offerings.

As needed, help structure and support strategic partnerships and collaborations across mobility initiatives to further drive Rivian’s status as a leading developer and manufacturer of software-defined autonomous vehicles.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Product, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to achieve Rivian objectives, balance value and risks in transactions, and deliver strategic agreements in connection with business priorities.
We're looking for someone who brings:

A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state and eligibility to practice law in-house.

A minimum of 3-5 years of legal experience with a strong emphasis in ecommerce, supporting complex commercial transactions and/or M&A transactions.

Experience supporting and advising on diverse issues and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly across different subject matters.

Exceptional written and oral communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

Strong business acumen and the ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-oriented legal advice.
