ABOUT COMPREHENSIVE SURGERY SPECIALISTS
Comprehensive Surgery Specialists (CSS Nova) is an independent, board-certified general surgery practice serving Northern Virginia across two locations in Aldie/Loudoun County and Fairfax. We deliver precision surgical care for the discerning patient — and we hold ourselves, and everyone on our team, to a high standard in every interaction. We are small, focused, and intentional. Every hire matters. We are not looking to fill a seat — we are looking for the right person.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a hybrid clinical and administrative position. You will float between our Aldie and Fairfax offices (three days in Aldie, two days in Fairfax) and be expected to perform both hands-on patient care tasks and front-desk administrative functions with equal competence and professionalism. No two days are identical, and that is the point.
CMA certification is not required. What is required is the actual ability to do the work — accurately, efficiently, and with confidence in your own judgment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Clinical Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, SpO₂)
- Complete patient intake documentation accurately in the EMR (Athena Health)
- Assist the surgeon with minor office procedures as directed
- Maintain exam rooms — stocking, cleaning, and readying between patients
- Manage specimen collection and coordinate lab orders as needed
- Clean and sterilize instruments according to office protocols
- Maintain clinical supply inventory and assist with restocking
Administrative Responsibilities
- Check patients in and out; verify demographics and insurance at every visit
- Collect co-pays, balances, and patient payments at time of service
- Schedule new consults, follow-ups, and surgical procedures
- Process and track prior authorization requests; follow up until resolution
- Manage incoming referrals and coordinate with referring provider offices
- Answer phones and handle patient communications professionally and promptly
- Maintain accurate records and assist with general office administrative tasks
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
- Hourly Rate $20.00 – $24.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
- Travel Stipend $250/month to offset travel between Aldie and Fairfax offices
- Schedule Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | No weekends, no on-call
- Location Split Aldie/Loudoun County – 3 days per week | Fairfax – 2 days per week
- Hours Full-time | ~40 hours per week
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Skills can be taught. Character cannot. We are direct about what we need:
Excellence as a Standard — Not a Goal
You take pride in doing things correctly the first time. You want this practice to be the best surgical office in Northern Virginia — not because you were told to, but because high standards are simply how you operate. You hold yourself accountable and do not need external pressure to perform at a high level.
A Real Work Ethic
You understand that a full-time position means contributing fully. You take initiative when something needs to get done rather than waiting to be asked. If you have the bandwidth and the team or patient needs something, you step in — because that is the kind of professional you are. You leave work at work: after 5:00 PM is yours, and we respect that completely.
Professionalism — Always
You understand that every patient interaction is a representation of this practice. You carry yourself accordingly — in your tone, your appearance, your communication, and your conduct. You are equally professional with patients, colleagues, and your employer. You contribute to a respectful, focused workplace and take that responsibility seriously.
A Commitment to Patient Experience
Patients who come to CSS Nova are trusting us at a vulnerable time. You take that seriously. You are warm without being performative, efficient without being dismissive, and you genuinely care whether the patient leaves feeling well cared for. Their experience is a reflection of the entire team — including you.
Team Orientation
You are invested in the success of the people around you. You do not operate in isolation or hoard tasks. You communicate, you flag problems early, and you treat your colleagues the way you want to be treated. A small practice only works when everyone on the team actually functions as one.

- Comfortable working in an EMR system; Athena Health experience a plus
