Position Summary: The medical records clerk organizes and evaluates patient’s health information and records. In addition, they perform a variety of electronic record-keeping and clerical duties in support of services provided in an outpatient or inpatient medical setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Organize and evaluate medical records for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensuring results for hospital & office follow-ups are present.

Ensuring results for testing & virtual visits are available for providers.

Organizing scans/EKGs in patient chart.
- Fulfills requests by patients, attorneys, insurance companies, and social security for release of records.

May manage paper faxes and messages by attaching to charts and delivering to providers.

Receive incoming correspondence and review/forward to appropriate department or staff.

Processing outgoing mail.

Managing the Release Desk to ensure immediate requests from patients & providers are fulfilled.

Answering phones, faxing, and filing of confidential documents, and basic internet and email utilization.

Responsible to check all jellybeans addressed to Medical Records in eClinicalWorks.

- Maintain a high level of patient confidentiality as governed by the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Education on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.

Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members.

Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.

Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to receive instructions.

Knowledge and proficiency in eClinicalWorks and other hospital portals.
