2nd Assistant Golf Maintenance
(Full Time, Non-Exempt)

Hiring Range is $46,184 to $53,183 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, this position is responsible for directing and participating in the daily maintenance of the golf course including: irrigation troubleshooting, repair, and operation, fertilizer spraying and calibration, equipment operation, chemical application and knowledge of central control systems including freedom commands. Supervises part-time personnel and section leader. This position is also responsible for golf course maintenance duties as well as general cleanliness and upkeep of the golf course. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.
Essential Duties:
- Assists in planning, directing, and implementing the maintenance of golf course greens, tees, fairways, roughs and irrigation system to improve and maintain turf and playing conditions.

Evaluates golf course conditions and reports course conditions to the golf course superintendent. Inspect turf to designate height and frequency of mowing; determine need for supplemental irrigation to sustain or increase growth.

Performs daily and weekly planning for maintenance of the golf course.

Instructs equipment operators in the safe operation and maintenance of all equipment.

Participates in the operation and maintenance of pump stations, as well as the maintenance and operation of the irrigation and drainage systems.

Applies fertilizers, herbicides, amendments, and chemicals, and maintains records as required.
- Performs general maintenance duties such as raking sand traps, mowing greens, tees, roughs and landscaped areas; repairing divots and surrounding areas; edging sand traps; moving cups and placing flags on greens; performing landscaping such as maintaining flower beds, hand trimming, and pulling weeds.

Performs minor irrigation repairs in landscaped areas.

Picks up and disposes of trash and other miscellaneous articles.

Conducts training of personnel in techniques for safe and efficient operation of equipment, tools, machinery, work methods and chemical applications.

Maintains, operates, and cares for assigned hand tools and equipment. Maintains and routinely inventories parts and materials used while performing maintenance duties.

Exercises good judgment and proper safety precautions and practices at all times.

Assists with activation of irrigation system at the beginning of the season and winterizes the system at the end of the season.
- Assists as needed with the installation of new irrigation systems and the extension of existing systems.

Keeps accurate records of daily activities and provides lists of materials for cost tracking. Responsible for providing accurate information for preparing purchase orders.

Develops and maintains professional relationships with District employees, vendors, various outside users' groups and associations.

May be required to fill in for absent employees, covering some or all duties to ensure operations continue smoothly.

Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely manner to inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone, and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.

Required to be available for on-call snow and ice removal as needed.

Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.

Attends work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis.

May be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Assists or may be responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating assigned staff; provides or coordinates staff training; and works with employees to correct deficiencies.

Education and/or Experience:

Must be eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or its equivalent.

One (1) year of experience in the field of golf course maintenance, turf grass management, or related field. Two (2) years' experience preferred.

Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

Valid Pesticide Application License in the turf and ornamental category preferred.

Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of how to play the game of golf and understanding of how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.

General knowledge of management and maintenance of greens, fairways and roughs.

General knowledge of the use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance work.

General knowledge of workplace safety procedures and the ability to adhere to safe work practices and procedures.

General knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products.

Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance and repair assignments.

Ability to lay out irrigation patterns, drainage patterns, construct tees and/or greens.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to read directions, chemical labels, and work documents.

General knowledge of laws, regulations, and methods of pesticide application and the safe and proper use of pesticides and appropriate personal protective gear.

Ability to train and assist with supervising subordinate employees.

Ability to exercise good judgement and practice proper safety precautions at all times.

Material and Equipment Used:

Regularly uses golf carts, mowers, diesel- electric and gasoline-powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, tractors, edgers, trimmers, shovels, rakes, hand-held power tools, irrigation systems, and other mechanical equipment, pesticide application equipment including high- or low-pressure sprayers and backpack sprayers, pesticides, and fertilizers.

Uses standard office equipment including a personal computer, phone, printer, fax machine, and copier.

This position may be required to drive a personal and/or District motor vehicle to various District and off-site facilities.
Working Environment:

Regularly requires strenuous work outdoors with exposure to a variety of weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscapes.

This position has regular exposure to adverse conditions such as dust, molds, grasses, fumes, odors, noise, wildlife and insects such as bees and wasps, pesticides, extreme temperatures, ultra-violet radiation, precipitation, and may include unlit or low light situations.

This position also performs work in an office environment subject to interruptions and background noises.

The position is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Physical Requirements:

Extended periods spent performing strenuous manual labor and standing, walking, sitting.

Required to use hands and fingers to manually manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
