22-Year-Old Autistic Non Speaking Female
Thanks to an amazing support staff, Autistic, nonspeaking AAC (touch chat) communicator has been living in her own apartment in Santa Cruz for over 2 years with the same team of support staff that we continue to build upon. They truly care for not only for my daughter but each other.
What we're looking for in our support staff:
- Eager to problem solve and patience with the process
- Supportive and collaborative with the rest of the team
- Observant (Being that she is nonspeaking, getting to know her interests, wants and needs will take time)
- Communicative with guardian and support staff (We fill the team in on changes, observations, complications and successes)
- Has transportation and can provide transportation to community activities
- Okay with the non glamerous aspects of caregiving
- A bit of humor tends to come in handy at times :)
Day shift: 2:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Monday and Thursday
Night shift: 9:00 p.m. - 9:00 a.m. Monday and Thursday night
*This is the ideal scheddule but can be adjusted if it works for the rest of the team
Daytime Shift Tasks:
- Pick up from Day Program in Capitola
- Includes activity (Ex. bowling, park visits, etc.) You can get creative with this!
- Food preparation
- Showering/hygiene routine
- Relaxing in TV room
- Prepare her for bedtime around 9:30
Overnight Shift Tasks:
- Sleeps on pullout couch
- Wakes to support as needed (rare)
- In morning, pack breakfast, prep day bag
- Hygiene routine (wake/dress/brush teeth)
- Wait outside for Day Program van to pick her up
Daytime wage $30/hour
Nighttime wage $20/hour
