Hospice Maui is looking for an outstanding Pediatric Hospice & Palliative Care RN to join our team of dedicated, compassionate caregivers. This special role supports children and families facing serious illness throughout Maui County, including Maui, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi.

Job Summary
The Pediatric Hospice & Palliative Care RN provides skilled nursing care, care coordination, education, and emotional support to pediatric patients and their families. This role works closely with physicians, APRNs, social workers, spiritual care counselors, child life specialists, volunteers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support comfort, dignity, quality of life, and family-centered care.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assess the needs of pediatric hospice and palliative care patients and families and develop individualized plans of care in accordance with physician orders and the interdisciplinary care plan.
- Provide skilled nursing care with a focus on pain and symptom management, comfort, quality of life, and emotional support.
- Coordinate care across home, hospital, facility, and community settings to ensure smooth transitions and timely communication.
- Educate and support parents, guardians, siblings, and caregivers regarding disease progression, medications, equipment, symptom management, and what to expect.
- Respond compassionately to patient and family concerns, providing counseling, reassurance, and culturally sensitive support.
- Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to communicate changes in condition, update care plans, and ensure coordinated support.
- Support admissions and smooth transitions from hospital, facility, or home to Hospice Maui services.
- Perform nursing assessments, medication coordination, DME coordination, documentation, and follow-up care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary group meetings, case reviews, care planning, and quality improvement activities.
- Represent Hospice Maui with professionalism, compassion, and aloha in homes, hospitals, facilities, and community settings.
Qualifications
- Maui resident.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current Hawaiʻi Registered Nurse license.
- Current CPR certification.
- Minimum two years of RN experience preferred, including hospice, home health, medical-surgical, critical care, pediatrics, or related nursing experience.
Pediatric healthcare experience required.
- Pediatric hospice and/or pediatric palliative care experience preferred.
- Experience with pain and symptom management, including infusion pumps.
- Licensed driver with a clean driving record and reliable, insured automobile in accordance with state requirements.
- Excellent assessment, observation, critical thinking, time management, documentation, and communication skills.
- Strong cultural sensitivity and a compassionate understanding of serious illness, grief, family dynamics, and end-of-life care.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team while also working independently in the field.
- Comfort with electronic medical records, smartphones, iPads, and technology used for documentation and communication.
Physical Requirements
This position may require prolonged or considerable walking or standing. Must be able to lift, position, and transfer patients. Duties may include reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching. Visual acuity and hearing are required to perform nursing skills safely and effectively.
