Manages the inventory, ordering, and storage of ammunition and other related supplies for the armory and range.
Maintains, cleans, repairs and adjusts city owned weapons.
Maintains the armory, range and ensures compliance with all applicable safety rules and procedures.
Maintains accurate and comprehensive records related to firearms, supplies, and training.
Prepares recommendations for supplies and equipment.
Ensures strict adherence to range rules and regulations.
Prepares comprehensive lesson plans that meet both established state and national Standards.
Responsible for issuing ammunition to departmental personnel as needed.
Responsible for general maintenance of the firing range and targeting equipment.
Trains personnel in the safe and efficient use of firearms.
Prepares and presents select training sessions including but not limited to firearms training.
Performs related work as required and as directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of current instructional and safety practices in the use of firearms.
Knowledge of approved principles and practices of police work and all applicable laws.
Knowledge of the operational safety and maintenance requirements of department approved firearms.
Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of an indoor firearms range.
Skilled in written and verbal communication.
Skilled in the use and operation of department authorized weapons.
Skilled in computer literacy with emphasis on Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to effectively conduct firearm training and instruction.
Ability to compile and maintain accurate records.
Ability to work flexible hours when necessary in order to meet departmental training needs.
Ability to understand and follow instructions and complete work assignments correctly.
Ability to adhere to tight schedules while maintaining work quality.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with chain of command, colleagues, other municipal employees, professional groups, and the general public in order to ensure efficient operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
FDLE Firearms Certification
Certified Officer or former Certified officer in the State of Florida.
Current or former firearms instructor with law enforcement experience.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by ample experience in firearms operation instruction; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Valid State of Florida driver’s license.
General Instructors Techniques certificate.
Certified Armorer
Firearms Instructor certification.
