For more than a century, Mt. Olivet Cemetery has served as a sacred place of prayer, remembrance, and hope for Catholic families throughout the Kalamazoo community. More than beautiful grounds, Mt. Olivet is a ministry of the Church—a place where lives are remembered, faith is celebrated, and families are accompanied during some of life's most meaningful moments.
We believe every person who contacts the cemetery deserves to be welcomed with kindness, treated with dignity, and served with compassion.
We are seeking a Family Services Coordinator who shares those values. This individual will become one of the primary faces of Mt. Olivet Cemetery, helping families navigate cemetery arrangements while ensuring the office operates smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate is warm, organized, detail-oriented, and finds fulfillment in serving others.
Position Summary
The Family Services Coordinator serves as the welcoming presence of Mt. Olivet Cemetery for families, visitors, funeral directors, clergy, and parishioners. This position combines compassionate customer service, office administration, and family guidance to ensure that every interaction reflects the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
Working in a Catholic cemetery is more than an administrative position—it is a ministry of hospitality and care. Whether answering a family's questions, assisting with the purchase of burial property, coordinating an upcoming burial, or greeting loved ones on the day of a funeral, this role helps provide comfort and peace during important moments in people's lives.
The Family Services Coordinator will generally work two to three days each week in the cemetery office, with occasional flexibility to assist families during scheduled services.

- Welcome visitors, answer telephone calls, and respond to emails with professionalism, compassion, and respect.
- Assist families with questions regarding loved ones, cemetery policies, burial rights, memorialization, and available services.
- Guide families through cemetery arrangements in a caring, consultative manner that reflects the values of Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
- Build relationships founded on trust rather than sales pressure.
Cemetery Services
- Show available burial property and explain cemetery options to families considering at-need or pre-need arrangements.
- Prepare contracts and complete documentation for the purchase of burial rights, memorials, and cemetery services.
- Coordinate burials with funeral homes, clergy, monument companies, and cemetery staff.
- Assist with greeting families and supporting funeral services when they occur during scheduled working hours.
Office Administration
- Maintain accurate cemetery records and update the cemetery management system following property sales and burials.
- Process paperwork, correspondence, and routine administrative tasks.
- Maintain organized files and records while exercising discretion and confidentiality.
- Support the day-to-day operation of the cemetery office.

- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
- Strong organizational abilities and careful attention to detail.
- Confidence working independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with computers and a willingness to learn cemetery management software.
- Previous experience in customer service, office administration, hospitality, healthcare, funeral service, banking, nonprofit organizations, or sales is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
The Person We're Looking For
The best candidate may never have worked in a cemetery before.
We're looking for someone who naturally puts people at ease, enjoys helping others, and understands that every family has a unique story. They are patient, dependable, organized, and compassionate. They are equally comfortable answering phones, preparing paperwork, coordinating details behind the scenes, and sitting with a family as they make important decisions.
Sales experience is helpful, but success in this role is built on trust, empathy, and exceptional service—not high-pressure sales techniques.
Schedule
- Part-time (16–24 hours per week)
- Generally two to three weekdays in the office
- Occasional flexibility for family appointments or funeral services
