Accounting Assistant

A growing engineering and construction company in Northern Virginia is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and professional Accounting Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for an individual looking to build a long-term career in accounting and business administration while supporting the day-to-day financial operations of a dynamic and growing organization.
Position Summary
The Accounting Assistant will provide administrative and accounting support to the Accounting Manager and leadership team. Responsibilities include assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, data entry, reconciliations, recordkeeping, and general office administration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing.
- Enter invoices, payments, receipts, and other financial transactions into QuickBooks Online.
- Review invoices and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with preparing and processing vendor payments, ACH transactions, and checks.
- Support payroll processing and maintain payroll records.
- Generate customer invoices and assist with collections as needed.
- Maintain organized financial records and filing systems.
- Reconcile vendor statements and assist with account reconciliations.
- Assist with monthly financial reports and project cost tracking.
- Communicate with vendors, customers, and employees regarding accounting-related inquiries.
- Support internal and external audits by organizing requested documentation.
- Assist with data entry, document management, and other administrative duties.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Previous accounting, bookkeeping, administrative, or office experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online is preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic.
Compensation and Benefits
