Directs the daily activities and ensures efficient operation of the linen production department. The Manager of Linen Services establishes policies and procedures regarding linen usage, cleaning and delivery, and storage, and maintains an inventory system of all linens and related supplies.
1. Leadership
a. Selects, trains, orients, and assigns departmental staff members in a manner that ensures efficient departmental operations and complies with relevant regulations governing the employment process. Implements and monitors departmental work schedules and duty assignments and oversees departmental staffing levels.
b. Establishes departmental standards for the evaluation of personnel performance and satisfies employee training and development needs. Monitors and evaluates the performance of reporting personnel and strives to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and with compassion and respect.
2. Program Management and Daily Operations
a. Develops and monitors the application of departmental and organizational policies and procedures, investigates policy and procedure violations, reviews relevant incident reports, and recommends appropriate action.
b. Develops required reports and maintains accurate records for use in evaluating departmental performance. Identifies ways of improving current services and consults with supervisors on employee and operational issues and problems.
c. Reviews and controls the efficient procurement and use of equipment. Ensures that periodic equipment maintenance is carried out in a prudent and efficient manner that controls hospital costs and ensures patient safety.
d. Estimates future departmental personnel, equipment, and supply needs in order to ensure the attainment of operating goals. Develops, recommends, and implements the annual capital equipment, personnel, and operating budget for the department. Conducts periodic reviews of departmental performance, analyzes budget variances, and implements responsive action.
e. Evaluates the department's physical condition and recommends painting, repairs, cleaning, and reallocation of space as needed in an effort to enhance departmental efficiency, sanitation, and safety.
3. Performance Improvement and Quality
a. Promotes the quality and efficiency of his/her own performance by remaining current with the latest trends in field of expertise through participation in job-relevant seminars and workshops, attendance at professional conferences, and affiliations with national and state professional organizations.
4. Other Duties as Assigned
a. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Experience:
2 years as a supervisor in a commercial or institutional laundry service setting
