Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Wastewater Project Engineer for our Sacramento, California office. As part of our design and process teams, you will be involved with a wide range of wastewater infrastructure projects. This will encompass all phases of design, including conceptual/feasibility evaluations, project management, preparation of design reports, permitting, development of construction drawings and specifications, and support of construction services.

Key Responsibilities:
-
Support the development of technical treatment strategies, selection of treatment processes, developing process design criteria, and delivering projects

Support coordination and collaboration with clients
-
Coordination with internal technical specialists in all practice areas and discipline design professionals for project delivery.

Support planning, design, permitting, and construction of wastewater-related projects.

Manage project tasks, scope, and schedules for smaller projects or specific components of larger projects to meet client requirements

Prepare comprehensive construction documents including drawings and specifications for wastewater treatment projects

Perform detailed design calculations for typical liquid and solids treatment processes
-
Lead technical writing for technical memorandum, master plans, basis of design reports and preliminary design reports

Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to effectively meet the client’s needs

Candidate shall also be able to support preparation of proposals and presentations

Provide engineering services during construction, including responding to RFIs (Request for Information), reviewing submittals, and conducting site visits to observe progress

Fieldwork and site visits from planning through construction may be required with occasional travel

Mentor junior staff and perform quality control reviews of their technical work
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering
-
PE license (California preferred)

5-12 years of experience in the field of wastewater-related infrastructure, including project engineering/management (planning, design, and construction)

Experience in successfully delivering and supporting projects spanning multiple years in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams

Proficient in all MS Office based computer software

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and capable of interacting effectively with staff, clients, and regulatory agencies

Proven proficiency in technical writing and documentation

Self-starter with attention to detail

Strong organizational skills

Must be capable of presenting complex issues to nontechnical people
Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in Civil/Environmental Engineering

Hands-on experience with design modeling software (e.g., Revit or AutoCAD)
