About the Role
The Miami DDA is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Finance to lead the organization's financial operations and ensure the long-term fiscal health of the agency. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this executive leadership position oversees all accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, audits, payroll, purchasing, cash management, and long-range financial planning for an organization managing an annual operating budget exceeding $18 million.
The Director of Finance serves as the organization's chief financial advisor, working closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop sound financial strategies, maintain strong internal controls, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide transparent financial reporting that supports informed decision-making. The role also serves as the primary liaison for external auditors, banking institutions, the City of Miami, and other governmental agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all finance and accounting functions, including budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, purchasing, and cash flow management.
- Develop and manage the agency's annual operating budget and long-term financial plans.
- Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and governmental stakeholders.
- Oversee annual audits, TRIM reporting, tax collection coordination, and compliance with all applicable financial regulations.
- Strengthen internal controls, improve financial processes, and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
- Provide strategic financial analysis and recommendations to support organizational goals and initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance experience, including at least 6 years in leadership roles within government or organizations working with government entities.
- Active Florida Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing.
- Strong knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, auditing, financial reporting, and Florida public sector regulations.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience leading finance and operational functions within a governmental or public-sector organization.
