Job Summary: We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Project Management to lead, mentor, and develop our project management team while maintaining direct responsibility for select commercial construction projects. This role serves as both a department leader and active project manager, ensuring consistent project execution, profitability, client satisfaction, and adherence to Jans Corporation standards across all projects. The Director of Project Management will oversee 3–6 project managers and will directly manage medium-sized commercial projects as needed to support business objectives and workload demands.
Location: This position is an on-site role based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Hours: A typical workweek is Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM, actual working hours and days may vary due to project deadlines; May require weekend or evening work at times.
Compensation: Starting at $101,000.00 per year, depending on experience

Key Accountabilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
-
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 3-6 project managers.
-
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching and development plans.

Project Planning and Execution:
-
Lead the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with project managers and other stakeholders.
-
Oversee the execution of projects, monitoring progress, identifying potential risks or delays, and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Resource Allocation and Management:
-
Work with the Director of Field Operations to allocate resources effectively to ensure projects are adequately staffed and resourced for successful delivery.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as human resources and accounting.

Risk Management:
-
Work with project managers to identify potential risks and challenges associated with construction projects and develop strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.

Manage the monthly project reviews with each PM to ensure projects are on track or determine recovery plans on off-track projects

Maintain accountability for departmental project forecasting, fee management, gross profit performance, and financial reporting. Support project managers in developing accurate monthly forecasts and recovery plans when necessary.

Monitor project budgets and expenditures, identifying cost overruns and implementing cost-saving measures where possible.

Work closely with the Project Admin to ensure document control processes are in place and are being followed by all team members
- Technology and Efficiency

Ensure all technology and systems/tools are being utilized to their highest capabilities for efficiency within the PM team.

Work with the General Manager to make decisions on software, cross-departmental software usage, and training needs.
- Strategic Planning

Collaborate with executive leadership to align project execution with company goals.

Contribute to long-term planning and resource allocation strategies.

Successfully implement and manage the quarterly rock setting and annual planning for the project management team alongside the Director of Field Operations.
- Lead initiatives to adopt new technologies and methodologies.

Project Management & Client Leadership

Directly manage assigned medium-sized commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Maintain ownership of project budget, schedule, contract administration, risk management, and client communication.
- Lead project teams to achieve safety, quality, schedule, and financial objectives.
- Partner with superintendents, owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
- Serve as an escalation point for project challenges and support PMs on complex projects.
- Model best practices in project management and provide hands-on leadership through active project involvement.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field.

Minimum of 7+ years of experience in project management within the commercial construction industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing teams.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve project goals.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, stakeholders, and team members at all levels.

Proficiency in project management software and tools (scheduling, submittals, RFIs, project delivery types, accounting software)

Thorough understanding of commercial construction processes, building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
