CRHC is looking for a PRN (as needed) Certified Nursing Assistant to join our surgical team. Hours and days may be flexible, Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Responsible for Advancing Exceptional Care by prioritizing Safety and Quality in every aspect of patient care. QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred
- Current Certification as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Iowa required
- BLS certification required or obtained within organizational timeframe

WORK SCHEDULE & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS:
The facility operates 24/7; however, work schedules may vary based on departmental needs to ensure the highest standard of patient care and operational efficiency. Flexibility will be expected.
- Eligible for shift differentials where applicable.
- Position is classified as non-exempt and eligible for overtime in accordance with labor laws.

Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Provides direct patient care and assists with activities of daily living as delegated
- Obtains and documents vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other delegated patient care tasks
- Assists with patient transport, positioning, ambulation, and transfer activities
- Recognizes and reports changes in patient condition promptly to licensed staff
- Assists with pre-operative and post-operative patient preparation
- Maintains patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
Perioperative & Procedural Support
- Assists with operating room and procedure room setup and turnover
- Assists with opening supplies and preparing rooms for procedures under supervision
- Assists the surgical scrub team with delegated non-licensed support activities
- Obtains supplies, equipment, and instruments as directed by licensed staff
- Participates in surgical/procedural time-out activities as necessary
- Assists with stocking and maintaining department supplies
Sterile Processing & Equipment Support
- Performs point-of-use cleaning activities per policy
- Transports contaminated instruments and equipment appropriately
- Assists with cleaning, inspection, packaging, and storage activities after competency validation
- Maintains clean and dirty separation practices
- Reports damaged equipment or instruments promptly
- Assists with room and equipment cleaning between procedures
Documentation & Communication
- Documents delegated care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary team members
- Uses SBAR and closed-loop communication principles when appropriate
- Reports safety concerns, equipment concerns, and patient concerns promptly
Patient Safety & Infection Prevention
- Follows infection prevention standards, hand hygiene requirements, and PPE guidelines
- Maintains a safe and organized patient care environment
- Identifies and reports safety risks, near misses, and adverse events
- Uses proper body mechanics and safe patient handling techniques
Professional Accountability
- Practices within CNA scope and delegated responsibilities
- Maintains required competencies and completes mandatory education
- Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, and teamwork
- Participates in department huddles, quality initiatives, and performance improvement activities
SCOPE LIMITATIONS
- Performs duties under supervision of a licensed nurse
- Does not independently scrub surgical procedures unless specifically trained, competency validated, and permitted by organizational policy
- Does not independently verify consent
- Does not independently transfer or discharge patients
- Does not administer medications unless authorized by policy and competency
- Does not independently perform patient assessments or surgical technologist functions
Quality Program Participation
- Actively participates in CRHC’s Quality Program, committees, performance improvement initiatives, and operational support activities.
- Demonstrates a commitment to Quality Improvement (QI) practices.
- Regularly attends Department huddles.
- Completes tasks as outlined on the Department Huddle Board.

- Performs additional duties as assigned to support the strategic initiatives of CRHC.
