Job Summary
Busy commercial construction company is seeking a dependable, safety-focused CDL Class A Driver to join our team. This position is responsible for safely transporting heavy equipment, construction materials, trailers, freight, and company vehicles between warehouses, fabrication facilities, and active job sites. The ideal candidate will have experience operating a variety of commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, and box trucks.
The successful candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and takes pride in maintaining clean, well-kept company vehicles and equipment. They will understand the importance of accurate transportation documentation, DOT compliance, and regulatory requirements while consistently adhering to all traffic laws, safety standards, and company policies. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, reliability, punctuality, flexibility, and professionalism, with the ability to work independently and represent the company positively at all times.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a variety of commercial vehicles, including Class A tractor-trailers, flatbeds, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, box trucks, and other company vehicles, in accordance with all DOT regulations and company policies.
- Transport heavy equipment, trailers, construction materials, tools, supplies, and freight between company facilities, warehouses, fabrication shops, vendors, and active job sites.
- Load, unload, secure, and transport equipment and materials using proper load securement procedures to ensure safe and damage-free delivery.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, post-trip, and daily vehicle inspections to ensure equipment is safe, compliant, and operating properly.
- Complete and maintain all required driver documentation, including vehicle inspection reports, driver logs (when applicable), shipping and delivery paperwork, mileage records, and other DOT-required documentation.
- Verify all loads for accuracy and ensure appropriate documentation accompanies each delivery or pickup.
- Coordinate deliveries and pickups with dispatch, warehouse personnel, field supervisors, project managers, vendors, and customers while maintaining delivery schedules.
- Communicate promptly regarding delivery status, route changes, delays, mechanical issues, accidents, traffic violations, or equipment damage.
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-maintained company vehicles, trailers, and equipment, taking pride in their appearance and condition.
- Assist with warehouse, yard, and fleet organization when transportation duties are complete.
- Represent the company professionally while interacting with customers, vendors, and employees at job sites and company locations.
- Comply with all OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and company safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support fleet operations and company needs.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A driver's license with a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Card).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of commercial driving experience, preferably in the commercial construction, utility, or heavy equipment industry.
- Proven experience operating a variety of commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, box trucks, and other heavy-duty vehicles.
- Proficiency operating both manual and automatic transmission commercial vehicles.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with a demonstrated history of safe and responsible driving.
- Previous experience transporting heavy equipment, construction materials, trailers, and freight.
- Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations, including driver compliance, vehicle inspections, and transportation documentation.
- Experience with proper freight handling, load securement, and safe loading and unloading procedures.
- Ability to perform thorough pre-trip, post-trip, and daily vehicle inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail for maintaining accurate driver logs, inspection reports, mileage records, shipping documents, and other required paperwork.
- Ability to safely maneuver large commercial vehicles and trailers in congested job sites, warehouses, and tight spaces.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize deliveries and consistently meet schedules.
- Ability to navigate efficiently using GPS, maps, and route planning tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, project managers, field supervisors, customers, and vendors.
- Dependable, punctual, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to maintaining clean, organized, and well-maintained company vehicles and equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb on and off trucks and trailers throughout the workday.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to secure loads using chains, binders, straps, and other tie-down equipment.
