Position Details
Position: Yard Worker / Forklift Operator
Location: Pomona, CA
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Responsibilities
- Sort, organize, and rack lumber according to customer orders and load requirements.
- Safely load and unload trailers and railcars containing materials weighing between 5,000 and 30,000 lbs.
- Perform daily forklift inspections and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Ensure all scheduled pre-loads are completed accurately and on time.
- Safely remove cables from railcars using a man lift while wearing all required PPE.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment.
- Stage trucks in departure order for next-day deliveries.
- Properly brace and secure lumber to prevent shifting or falling.
- Read and interpret bills of lading (BOLs), delivery paperwork, invoices, and work orders.
- Follow established work schedules, break periods, and safety procedures.
- Attend required weekly and quarterly safety meetings.
- Adapt to changing priorities and operational needs.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
- Work overtime as needed during busy periods.
Qualifications
Required
- Previous forklift experience in a lumber yard, building materials, or similar environment.
- Ability to safely handle and organize lumber products.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, and perform physically demanding work.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Customer service experience.
- High school diploma or GED.
