Experienced Freight Broker – Sales & Operations
Full-Time W-2 | Remote – Washington State -Candidates Only
SFam Logistics LLC is a growing Washington-based freight brokerage focused on providing dependable, responsive, and cost-effective transportation solutions to shippers throughout the United States.
We are seeking an experienced Freight Broker – Sales & Operations to become a key member of our team and help build SFam’s customer base and day-to-day brokerage operation.
This is a hands-on, full-cycle freight brokerage position. The ideal candidate has proven experience in both freight brokerage sales and operations and can independently manage the process from prospecting and customer acquisition through quoting, carrier sourcing, booking, tracking, delivery, and customer follow-up.
Because SFam is a growing company, this position is designed for someone who is comfortable wearing multiple hats. You will be responsible not only for developing new shipper relationships, but also for managing the freight those relationships generate.
This is not an entry-level logistics position and is not a general administrative or dispatch position. We are looking for an experienced freight professional who understands how a brokerage operates and can take ownership of their work with limited day-to-day supervision.
Position Responsibilities
1. Sales & Business Development
- Develop and execute daily outbound sales activities to generate new shipper accounts and profitable freight opportunities.
- Conduct professional B2B cold calling, email outreach, prospecting, and follow-up with manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and other businesses that regularly ship freight.
- Research prospective customers and identify transportation, logistics, shipping, purchasing, and supply-chain decision-makers.
- Develop relationships with shipping managers, logistics managers, transportation managers, supply-chain professionals, and company owners.
- Introduce SFam Logistics and identify the customer’s transportation needs, lanes, equipment requirements, and service expectations.
- Generate and qualify RFQs from prospective and existing customers.
- Prepare accurate and competitive freight quotes while protecting SFam’s required gross margin.
- Follow up consistently on quotes, opportunities, and inactive accounts.
- Convert qualified prospects into recurring shipper accounts.
- Develop long-term customer relationships rather than relying solely on one-time shipments.
- Maintain a healthy sales pipeline and accurately document activities, opportunities, contacts, and follow-ups in the CRM.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing customer relationships into additional lanes, equipment types, and shipment volume.
2. Freight Brokerage Operations
Once a shipment is awarded, you will be responsible for managing the shipment from booking through successful delivery.
Responsibilities include:
- Review customer shipment requirements and confirm pickup, delivery, commodity, weight, dimensions, equipment, dates, and special requirements.
- Source qualified carriers using load boards, carrier networks, existing relationships, and other approved resources.
- Negotiate carrier rates while maintaining acceptable SFam margins.
- Verify carrier qualifications and ensure carriers meet SFam’s internal safety and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate carrier onboarding and documentation when necessary.
- Book carriers and issue rate confirmations.
- Enter accurate shipment information into SFam’s TMS.
- Coordinate pickup and delivery appointments.
- Monitor shipment status and maintain appropriate tracking/check-call procedures.

- Work quickly to identify solutions when a shipment does not go according to plan.

- Update the TMS and CRM accurately and promptly.
- Follow SFam’s operating procedures, customer requirements, carrier qualification standards, and documentation requirements.
- Maintain professional communication with all parties involved in the shipment.
3. Customer Account Management
The person in this position will be responsible for building relationships after the first load, not simply finding a customer and moving on.
You Will:
- Maintain regular communication with active customers.
- Understand each customer’s shipping patterns, preferred lanes, equipment requirements, and service expectations.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and identify potential service problems before they become major issues.
- Follow up after completed shipments.
- Identify opportunities for repeat and recurring freight.
- Respond promptly to customer requests and RFQs.
- Resolve service issues professionally and efficiently.

- Develop and maintain relationships with qualified motor carriers.
- Source capacity for customer freight.
- Negotiate competitive carrier rates.
- Maintain professionalism during rate negotiations.
- Evaluate carrier availability, equipment, location, service history, and qualifications.
- Follow SFam’s carrier vetting and onboarding procedures.
- Maintain accurate carrier information in the TMS and other systems.
- Build reliable carrier capacity in frequently used lanes.
- Work to secure appropriate capacity without sacrificing customer service or profitability.
5. Pricing & Profitability
The successful candidate must understand that revenue alone does not make a brokerage profitable—gross profit does.
Responsibilities include:
- Analyze market conditions when developing customer quotes.
- Obtain competitive carrier rates.
- Establish customer pricing based on market conditions and SFam’s margin requirements.
- Protect gross profit on every shipment.
- Understand the difference between revenue, carrier cost, gross profit, and gross margin.
