Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Lead Estimator to join our construction team and drive the success of our commercial projects. In this pivotal role, you will lead the estimating process from initial project sourcing and review through final bid submission, ensuring accurate cost projections and competitive pricing. Duties
- Lead the development of detailed construction estimates for commercial projects by interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid and Bluebeam to prepare accurate cost proposals, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Analyze construction drawings and review plans to determine material requirements, scope of work, and potential risks.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously by coordinating with project managers, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure timely and accurate bid submissions.
- Conduct negotiations with vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards.
- Oversee cost management throughout the project lifecycle by tracking budgets, controlling costs, and identifying value engineering opportunities.
- Prepare comprehensive spreadsheets for estimating purposes, including detailed breakdowns of costs and project schedules.
- Review construction management software data to ensure estimates align with project timelines and resource allocations.
- Lead efforts in estimating material requirements from blueprints and technical drawings to optimize procurement strategies.
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding project scope, pricing strategies, and potential cost-saving measures.
- Participate in construction site visits to gather on-the-ground insights that influence accurate estimations.
Experience
- Proven experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the commercial construction industry.
- Strong proficiency in estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, along with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Extensive knowledge of blueprint reading, interpreting technical drawings, and reviewing construction documents.
- Demonstrated ability in cost control, material cost estimating, and budgeting for large-scale projects.
- Skilled in negotiation with vendors and subcontractors to achieve favorable terms without compromising quality or safety standards.
- Construction site experience combined with a solid understanding of construction management processes is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration across multiple stakeholders.
- Familiarity with construction industry standards related to cost management, material requirements estimation, and project scheduling is essential.
