The Source, Central Oregon’s independent media company, is looking for a sharp, curious, and highly organized Staff Writer to join our team.
This role is perfect for someone who lives and breathes local happenings, loves a fast-paced news environment, and enjoys juggling writing, digital tools, and social media. You’ll play a key role in shaping how Central Oregon finds out what’s happening—online, in print, and in inboxes.

About the Role
This position is central to The Source’s daily editorial and digital operations. You’ll manage and curate our events calendar (both online and in print), support social media efforts, produce daily written content, and help deliver timely email newsletters.
You’ll regularly write 2–3 short stories per day, including spot news, breaking updates, and quick-turn community stories. This role also collaborates closely with editors and the production team to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency across platforms.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain The Source’s events calendar (online and print)
- Write 2–3 short-form stories daily (breaking news, spot news, community updates)
- Assist with creating and sending email newsletters
- Support social media scheduling and content publishing
- Help ensure accuracy and consistency across digital platforms
- Collaborate with editors and staff on daily content needs
Desired Skills
- Strong, clear writing and editing skills
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under daily deadlines
- Experience with content management systems
- Familiarity with Mailchimp or other email marketing platforms
- Comfort with social media platforms and digital publishing
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Desired Background
- Education or experience in journalism, communications, digital media, public relations, or a related field
- Familiarity with Central Oregon events, culture, and community is a big plus
Pay: $18.50 per hour
