Position Title: Maintenance/Custodian
Reports To: Director/Assistant Director
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM; occasional weekends as needed for special events, projects, or emergency maintenance.
Pay: $18 -20

Welbourne Nursery & Preschool is seeking a reliable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Maintenance/Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff. This position is responsible for the daily cleaning, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the school building, classrooms, playgrounds, and grounds.
Custodial Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, common areas, and staff spaces daily.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors throughout the facility.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Replenish restroom and classroom supplies as needed.
- Assist with classroom setup and breakdown for special events and activities.
Maintenance Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections of the facility and grounds to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
- Complete minor repairs, including painting, replacing fixtures, assembling furniture, and basic plumbing or electrical repairs as appropriate.
- Maintain playground equipment and outdoor areas to ensure a safe environment for children.
- Monitor HVAC, lighting, and other building systems and report issues requiring professional service.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors as directed.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance projects and facility improvements.
Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with licensing, health, and safety regulations.
- Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies and safety concerns.
- Maintain secure storage and proper use of cleaning supplies and maintenance equipment.
- Report hazards, accidents, or facility concerns to administration immediately.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience preferred.
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and basic maintenance tools.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Positive attitude and commitment to supporting a child-centered environment.
- Ability to pass all required background screenings and comply with state childcare regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout the workday.
