Experienced Tutor/Teacher – Small Group Academic Support (Sherman Oaks)
In-Person | Part-Time | $30/hour
Schedule
· 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Monday through Friday
· 15 hours per week
· In-person tutoring in the Sherman Oaks area
· August 2026 through June 2027
We're hiring one experienced tutor to support a small group of 4–5 students enrolled in an online, asynchronous schooling program. These are reclassification students ("redshirting") completing 8th grade for a second year as part of a deliberate developmental plan.
Your focus is keeping students on track, meeting grade-level benchmarks, and positioning them to return to in-person learning for 9th grade. This is a focused, low-ratio role where you'll play a central part in their progress.
This is a part-time position with an expected commitment from August 2026 through June 2027, aligned with the school year.
The Tutor/Teacher’s Responsibilities:
Students complete their coursework through a self-paced online program.
Your role is to make sure they're actually learning it. Day to day, you'll:
· Ensure students log into their portal and complete assigned work
· Check comprehension and confirm students understand the material, not just finish it
· Re-teach concepts when something isn't clicking
· Fill in foundational gaps and teach ahead when students are ready
· Keep students progressing toward grade-level benchmarks and prepared for the transition to 9th grade
· Complete weekly progress reports for each student, shared with families to track progress and accountability
What We're Looking For
· Extensive tutoring or teaching experience
· Direct experience working with 8th-grade students in both ELA and math (required)
· Experience in a group or classroom setting (a strong plus)
· Ability to assess comprehension and adjust instruction on the spot
· Strong communication skills, professionalism, and reliability
· Comfort with written reporting and consistent family communication
