The LPG Waterborne Trader (Trader IV) supports the execution of trading strategies primarily within the Phillips 66 global LPG and NGL business. The Global NGL Trading team is actively involved in building a high-performing organization by identifying and capturing trading opportunities and working across the NGL barrel to generate profit both regionally and globally as part of the Global NGL Trading team.
As part of the team, the LPG Waterborne Trader will be focused on trading LPG and supporting the broader Global NGL Trading Team in realizing annual profit objectives while adhering to Phillips 66 core values and vision to ensure the business remains a high-performance work unit. This role will contribute to providing offtake to Phillips 66 fractionation and export assets, including the Sweeny fractionation hub. This is primarily an individual contributor role working under the guidance of the Global LPG Trading Lead to meet NGL trading functional and business goals in a timely and organized manner.
What You’ll Do
Serve as a key contributor to global LPG team strategy and execution of strategy.
Work closely with the Phillips 66 Midstream Sweeny Hub Optimization team.
Execute spot and short-term LPG contracts.
Optimize LPG cargo activity at Freeport LPG Export Terminal.
Serve as backup to the Waterborne LPG trader and others.
Collaborate with Origination to develop long-term customer portfolio.
Collaborate and share information with traders in our Houston, London, and Calgary offices to proactively identify, develop, and implement trading strategies linked to regional and global arbitrage opportunities.
Support physical LPG trading activity and use financial and derivative tools, as appropriate, to add value.
Contribute to the Houston NGL team realizing annual profit objectives.
Develop and maintain counterparty relationships to conclude LPG transactions, expand our market presence, and increase trading potential.
Work with the marine department, operations, and other logistics teams to optimize freight and execution.
Work closely with risk management and follow company risk management policies for all trades to ensure proper controls and return thresholds are aligned with corporate goals.
Contribute to and leverage data analytics to enhance market insights and trading efficiency.
Capture deal details accurately into our Deal Capture System for accurate reporting.
Coordinate and promote business development and growth activities.
Work with mid- and back-office support teams to ensure accurate reporting of positions.
Continuously challenge and debate existing strategies and new trade ideas.
What You’ll Bring – Required
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
Bachelor’s degree or higher
3 or more years of relevant commercial, trading, or energy experience
1 or more years of LPG, NGL, or related products trading, marketing, scheduling, or commercial experience
What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred
Prior experience as an LPG Trader
Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work effectively in a dynamic commercial environment
Understanding of LPG and NGL trade flows and the commercial drivers of regional and global arbitrage
Familiarity with supply and demand fundamentals, pricing structures, and market dynamics affecting LPG markets
Understanding of pricing and volume exposures and tools and strategies for managing risk
Analytical mindset with strong decision-making skills
Strong negotiating skills
Knowledge of LPG cargo operations, marine markets, and logistics
Knowledge of regional LPG logistics, terminals, and export infrastructure
Results oriented with the ability to think and act decisively under changing circumstances
Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively across functions and cultures
Ability to collaborate, share market intelligence, and contribute in a high-performing team environment
Proficiency in trading software such as Bloomberg, ICE Connect, and WebICE
Advanced computer spreadsheet skills
Compensation Range
This position has a base salary range of $147,600 – $180,400. This role is eligible to participate in the company’s commercial bonus program, offering the opportunity to earn additional compensation based on business and individual performance, in accordance with program guidelines.

The Commercial organization works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration. Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations. Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
