At 1st Classen Physical Therapy, the Physical Therapist Assistant position is responsible for following the POC detailed for the specific patient detailed by the DPT in order to achieve gains for a broad range of diagnoses (primarily orthopedics, see full list below). Documentation is completed in Prompt using templates for all notes that can be customized to each patient.

We work with upper and lower extremities as well. This position may specialize in care for certain complex patient types, through advanced training and education with our clinic.
An experienced therapist is preferred for this position to provides education to patients, patient's family members, and/or caregivers, and collaborates with other interprofessional team members, as needed, for problem resolution and/or achievement of identified patient specific goals. The physical therapy assistant position will use best practices and process improvement initiatives while following the PTOT TX state and APTA laws for physical therapy. We expect all staff to stay up to date on licensure and education guidelines to practice safely in TX.

Offers guidance to interprofessional health care team, when appropriate, and applies feedback to improve patient outcomes.
- Uses therapeutic communication, which includes active listening and teaching, to establish a relationship with patients, families and interprofessional health care team to follow Physical Therapist plan of care. Partners with members of the interprofessional care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner to Physical Therapist and Management when concerns arise.
- Treat patients using manual, neuromuscular, and therapeutic activities to increase function and reduce pain follow POC. Progress patients as tolerated in a timely manner as consistent with best practices, protocols, and POC.
- Review HEP with patient ensure they are logging into the system and marking HEP completion for compliance.
- Teaches and provides guidance to exercise trainers, peer therapists, and other staff. Uses peer-to-peer accountability towards improvement of department efficiency for employee engagement.
- Ability to follow DPT POC, open to feedback and direction, team player attitude to advocate for patient gains, safety, and quality of care.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assesses patients regularly, monitors progress towards treatment goals, follow goals, and follow plan or program as indicated. Recognizes complications/limitations associated with certain procedures and proactively addresses such for optimum outcomes.
- Provides select oversight of physical therapy-related activities provided by interprofessional health care team, and if necessary, request Physical Therapist adjusts the plan to improve quality of outcome and maintain the safety of the patient.
- Proactively identifies opportunities for corrective action and assists in process improvement by providing recommendations and contributes to meeting department and office targeted goals for quality and safety. Identifies areas of practice improvements with research-based evidence and assists in development of treatment protocols and best practice for certain population or practice area to achieve patient safety outcomes, supported by accurate documentation.
- Understanding, awareness, and ability to recognize safety issues for patients and direct to DPT or Management immediately by following APTA and PTOT Guidelines.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintains accurate and complete documentation of patient education and procedures performed in a timely manner in the patient record. Enters accurate charges for services provided, as applicable.
- Uses resources efficiently to maximize utilization of time and equipment. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively, minimizing incidental overtime, and prioritize daily tasks, assisting coworkers as needed.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Initiates innovative solutions through evidence-based practice/performance improvement projects. Actively participates in and may lead department projects and/or hospital committees. Participates in 1CPT-related and approved clinic/community teaching opportunities, community services and/or functions.
- Identifies and presents areas for innovation, efficiency and improvement in patient care or unit operations using evidence-based practice literature. Assists higher level PTs with program development and/or clinical competencies.
- Seeks opportunities to identify self-development needs and expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a Physical Therapist, taking appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Associates Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant
WORK EXPERIENCE
- One-Two years of experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant preferred
- Women's Health experience or ability to learn pelvic floor therapy preferred (for FEMALE APPLICANTS)
- We do not offer male pelvic floor (male applicants will not do pelvic floor) but maintain professional demeanor in the clinic regarding all treatment types.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
- BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) AND
- PT - Physical Therapist Assistant - State Licensure -- with the Texas Board of Examiners. Compact license acceptable according to current ECPTOTE requirements within 90 days

- PT-Temp - Physical Therapist Assistant Temporary - State Licensure -- with the Texas Board of Examiners. Compact license acceptable according to current ECPTOTE requirements within 90 days
