We are opening a new children’s dance studio in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, and are looking for an energetic, creative, and dependable Acro for Hip-Hop / Tumbling Instructor to join our team.
Our studio specializes in hip-hop, street styles, performance training, and competition team programs. We are specifically looking for an instructor who can teach acrobatics and tricks that complement hip-hop choreography and help dancers develop the strength, control, confidence, and technique needed for performances and competitions.
The ideal candidate understands how to safely incorporate acrobatic elements into hip-hop and street-style training. This may include floor tricks, freezes, transitions, handstands, cartwheels, walkovers, aerial preparation, tumbling basics, flexibility, strength, and other age-appropriate skills that can be used in choreography.
The class schedule is currently flexible and will be discussed based on the instructor’s availability and the studio’s needs.
Responsibilities
- Teach acro hip-hop, tumbling, and trick-based classes for children
- Introduce safe, age-appropriate acrobatic elements that can be incorporated into hip-hop choreography
- Help dancers develop strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, body control, and confidence
- Teach skills such as rolls, bridges, cartwheels, handstands, walkovers, freezes, floor tricks, transitions, and basic tumbling
- Prepare students for performances, showcases, and dance competitions, if needed
- Work with the studio’s hip-hop instructors and competition team coaches when needed
- Create structured and engaging lesson plans for different ages and skill levels
- Demonstrate proper technique and provide safe spotting
- Maintain a positive, encouraging, disciplined, and organized class environment
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback
- Follow all studio safety policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children is required
- Experience teaching acrobatics, tumbling, gymnastics, acro dance, or related movement styles
- Strong knowledge of proper technique, spotting, conditioning, and injury prevention
- Ability to teach beginner and intermediate students
- Patient, responsible, energetic, creative, and reliable
- Strong classroom-management and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with other instructors and competition team coaches
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with hip-hop dancers or dance competition teams
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Gymnastics, acrobatics, dance, or coaching certifications
Compensation
Please keep in mind that this is a part-time, hourly position. The hourly rate will be discussed and determined based on the instructor’s experience, qualifications, availability, and class responsibilities.
