Honeybee Studio Guide (Ages 3–6)
At Acton Academy North San Antonio, we believe children are far more capable than most schools allow.
We are building a learner-driven community where young children practice independence, responsibility, curiosity, empathy, and meaningful work from the very beginning of their Hero’s Journey.
Our Honeybee Studio (ages 3–6) blends the best of Montessori, Reggio Emilia, nature and play-based learning, and learner-driven practices. This is not a traditional classroom, and we are not seeking a traditional teacher.
We are looking for a calm, grounded, curious adult who deeply respects children and believes they are capable of far more than adults often assume.
Someone who asks questions more than gives answers. Someone who can hold loving boundaries, trust process, protect culture, and delight in wonder.
What Makes This Role Different
- You will not stand at the front of the room delivering lessons.
- You will guide rather than rescue.
- You will observe more than direct.
- You will help young children build independence, solve conflicts, navigate frustration, make choices, and take ownership of their learning.
- You will co-create a beautiful, purposeful environment where curiosity, responsibility, creativity, and joy thrive.
What You’ll Do
- Guide a mixed-age community of children (ages 3–6)
- Protect and strengthen studio culture through clear boundaries, consistency, and kindness
- Observe learners deeply and respond thoughtfully to developmental needs and interests
- Facilitate invitations to learning, projects, provocations, and experiences rooted in curiosity and wonder
- Foster independence, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and personal responsibility
- Document learning and communicate thoughtfully with families
- Help create beautiful environments inspired by Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and nature-based learning
- Partner with fellow Guides to continually improve systems, culture, and studio experiences
You Might Thrive Here If…
- You genuinely enjoy being around children and respect them as capable humans
- You believe learning happens through exploration, struggle, experimentation, and ownership
- You are calm, adaptable, warm, and emotionally grounded
- You can lovingly hold boundaries without controlling or rescuing
- You value curiosity over perfection
- You are organized, proactive, and entrepreneurial
- You enjoy reflecting, growing, and receiving feedback
- You are energized by building something meaningful
Preferred Experience
- Montessori, Reggio Emilia, learner-driven, democratic, forest/nature, project-based, or alternative education experience
- Experience guiding mixed-age groups of children
- Coaching, mentoring, facilitation, or child development experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A growth mindset and commitment to lifelong learning
This Probably Isn’t For You If…
- You prefer a highly scripted curriculum
- You enjoy being the center of attention in a classroom
- You feel uncomfortable with child autonomy or productive struggle
- You prefer compliance over curiosity
- You want to “fix” problems for children instead of coaching them through challenges
