Job overview
Brook Valley Management is looking for a Senior Software Developer to help lead the continued development of Panorama, our custom-built (C#) inventory management system, and the integrations that connect it to our point-of-sale, ERP, and other operational systems. This role owns significant, ambiguous technical problems end to end — from designing an integration approach to shipping and supporting it in production across our retail footprint. Panorama runs on dedicated servers at each location, staying operational through internet outages and syncing to AWS when back online. This role centers on designing for distributed sites with unreliable connectivity. Fluency with modern, AI-assisted ("agentic") development workflows is expected, not optional: we want someone who uses tools like Claude Code as a core part of how they build, review, and ship software, and who can help the rest of the team get more effective with them too.
Responsibilities and duties
- Design, build, and maintain features within Panorama (our custom C# inventory management system), balancing new development with the stability of a system the whole business runs on.
- Developing and maintaining data integrity and system uptime across distributed site locations.
- Design and build integrations between Panorama, our point-of-sale platform (Counterpoint by NCR), and other systems (ERP, BI, and third-party vendor platforms), keeping inventory, pricing, and sales data accurate and in sync.
- Use agentic coding tools (e.g. Claude Code) as a standard part of the development workflow — for implementation, code review, testing, and documentation — and help set conventions for how the broader technology team uses them effectively and safely.
- Take a project from a rough problem statement (from BI, enterprise technology, or store operations stakeholders) through design, implementation, testing, and rollout, with minimal hand-holding.
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code, and hold that same bar in code reviews for other developers.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues in Panorama and its integrations, including data discrepancies between systems, with urgency appropriate to a live retail environment.
- Document system architecture and integration points so the rest of the technology team (and future hires) can understand and extend the systems you build.
- Partner directly with the Director of Enterprise Technology, the BI team, and the Panorama subject-matter expert to prioritize and scope upcoming work, including new store rollouts and new integration needs.
- Evaluate new tools, libraries, and AI-assisted development practices, and make pragmatic recommendations on what's worth adopting.
- Mentor and coach junior developers, collaborating on documentation, workflows, and general practices.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with demonstrated ownership of non-trivial systems in production.
- Strong, hands-on C# experience; comfortable working in and extending an existing large C# codebase.
- Experience with distributed, intermittently-connected systems — eventual consistency, idempotent retries, and reconciling data from a site that has been offline.
- Real, hands-on experience using agentic/AI-assisted coding tools in a professional workflow — Claude Code experience is a strong plus — rather than only casual chatbot use.
- Direct experience building or maintaining integrations between operational systems — point-of-sale, inventory/warehouse management, ERP, or similar — including handling data synchronization, APIs, and edge cases between systems that don't always agree.
- Ability to translate an ambiguous business problem into a scoped technical plan, and to communicate that plan clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong debugging and systems-thinking skills — comfortable tracing an issue across multiple connected systems, not just within a single codebase.
- Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of other developers.
- Ability to travel occasionally to support store rollouts or on-site integration work.
Education and Experience
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Demonstrated C# / .NET experience.
- Comfort and proficiency improving code quality and developer experience within a large, shared codebase (e.g., AWS).
- Experience integrating disparate business systems (POS, IMS, ERP, or similar) a must.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools (Claude Code preferred) strongly preferred.
- Experience in retail, thrift, recommerce, or supply chain technology environments is a plus, but not required.
