The Role
eNGINE is looking for a backend-leaning Java Developer to join a team building on a modern, enterprise-grade stack — Java, Spring, REST APIs, Kafka, and microservices. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll be writing real code, solving real architecture problems, and working alongside a team that actually cares about doing things the right way, not just the fast way.
Angular experience is a nice bonus if you have it, but it's not a dealbreaker
What You'll Be Doing
- Building and maintaining backend services using Java, Spring, and REST APIs
- Working with Kafka and microservices architecture to build systems that scale
- Writing clean, maintainable code and holding the line on best practices — not just for yourself, but helping raise the bar for the team
- Sharing ownership of the team's commitments rather than just your individual tickets — if something's falling behind, that's everyone's problem to solve
- Working cross-functionally with data engineers, business stakeholders, project managers, and fellow engineers to land on solutions that are actually elegant, not just functional
- Staying sharp by engaging with the broader engineering community — local meetups, knowledge-sharing, that kind of thing — and bringing what you learn back to the team
What You Bring
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring (Spring Boot preferred)
- Solid experience building and consuming REST APIs
- Experience with Kafka and microservices-based architecture
- Comfort working in a collaborative, team-first engineering environment rather than a heads-down solo one
- Ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Angular or frontend experience is a plus, but not required
