Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Optician Apprentice to join our dynamic optical team. This entry-level role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop foundational skills in eyewear fitting, optical dispensing, and patient care under the supervision of experienced professionals. As an Optician Apprentice, you will assist with patient interactions, learn about opticianry and optics, and gain hands-on experience with eyewear customization, laboratory procedures, and health regulation policies. This paid position is ideal for individuals passionate about eyecare and eager to grow within the optical industry.
Responsibilities
- Support licensed opticians in fitting and adjusting eyewear frames to ensure optimal comfort and style for patients
- Assist with spectacle lens dispensing, including verifying prescriptions and selecting appropriate lenses based on patient needs
- Help maintain accurate medical records following clinical confidentiality policies
- Prepare and process eyewear orders using optical laboratory equipment and POS systems, ensuring precision and quality control
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions about eyewear options, lens features, and optical products
- Follow health regulation policies, including aseptic techniques
Experience
- Prior retail sales or customer service experience is preferred but not required; enthusiasm for engaging with people is essential
- Experience with optical laboratory work or retail management in an optometry setting is a plus
- Knowledge of state healthcare regulations, HIPAA compliance, and clinical confidentiality policies will support your success in this role
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic math calculations related to retail transactions and optical measurements
- Willingness to learn about medical billing procedures and optical lab techniques such as eyewear frame adjustment
