648 Earthworks is a commercial excavation and grading contractor in Marietta serving retail, office, and commercial development across Metro Atlanta. We're hiring a licensed Georgia Utility Manager to serve as our qualifying licensee and run our utility work in the field.
This is not a desk job. You'll be on the ground with the crew — laying out and installing storm, sanitary, water, and fire lines, setting structures, running the trench safely, and making the grade check out before the inspector shows up. You'll also carry the license the company builds its utility scope around.
**Responsibilities**
- Qualify 648 Earthworks as our full-time licensed Utility Manager
- Run utility installation in the field: storm, sanitary, domestic water, and fire service, 5+ ft trench work
- Lay out from civil plans, verify invert and grade, and coordinate inspections with the county and the GC
- Own trench safety — shoring, boxes, confined space entry, daily competent-person inspections
- Supervise crew and equipment, including a 2026 CAT 315 with factory grade control and load assist, a Kubota KX040-4 with Engcon tiltrotator and iDig, and a Kubota SVL75
- Work directly with the owner on means, methods and schedule; help scope and check utility takeoffs at bid time
**Requirements**
- **Current Georgia Utility Manager certificate** (Division of Utility Contractors) — this one is not negotiable; it's the reason for the job
- Not currently the qualifying licensee for another utility contracting company
- Current Board-approved excavation and confined space training
- Hands-on experience installing utility systems at 5+ feet, on commercial sites
- Ability to read civil plans and hold grade without hand-holding
- Valid driver's license and a clean MVR
