Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Activities Director to lead engaging and meaningful recreational programs within a senior living community. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement diverse activity programs tailored to residents’ interests, abilities, and health needs, including memory care and dementia-specific activities.
- Coordinate resident events such as outings, celebrations, recreational therapy sessions, and social gatherings that encourage community engagement.
- Build strong rapport with residents by understanding their preferences, needs, and individual histories to personalize activities effectively.
- Collaborate with care staff to assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and ensure activities are accessible for residents with disabilities or mobility challenges.
- Manage schedules for activities staff and volunteers to ensure consistent program delivery while maintaining safety protocols.
- Maintain detailed records of resident participation, progress, and feedback to continuously improve program offerings.
- Communicate regularly with families and team members about upcoming events, resident participation, and special needs related to activity programming.
Experience
- Proven experience in event planning within assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or senior care environments.
- Strong background in recreational therapy, geriatrics, dementia care, or memory support programs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop engaging programs that promote social interaction and mental stimulation for seniors.
- Familiarity with working with individuals with disabilities or special needs in long-term care settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for scheduling, documentation, and communication purposes.
- Prior leadership experience managing activity staff or volunteers in a senior living or home & community care setting.
- Knowledge of aging issues counseling, social work principles related to elder care, and resident rapport building techniques.
