TJ Office Furniture – Plymouth, MN
Pay Range: $24–$29 per hour, based on experience
TJ Office Furniture is seeking a dynamic Lead Commercial Office Furniture Installer & Decommissioning Specialist to join our growing team. This unique, mostly field-based role is ideal for a hands-on professional who thrives on variety. Balancing the precision of new office furniture installations at client locations with the strategic logistics of large-scale decommissions and site clearances.
The ideal candidate will spend approximately 60% of their time leading high-quality commercial office furniture installations and 40% managing decommissioning services. This person will be a trusted field leader, client advocate, and problem-solver who can keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and professionally.
Primary Responsibilities
Installation Leadership (Approximately 60%)
· Lead project execution: Direct crews in the assembly, leveling, adjustment, and installation of modular systems, private offices, collaborative spaces, seating, storage, workstations, and related commercial furniture products.
· Interpret plans accurately: Read and apply CAD drawings, blueprints, furniture plans, installation documents, and field conditions to ensure the physical layout matches the design intent.
· Promote jobsite safety: Follow and reinforce safety protocols, protect building interiors, and maintain a secure work environment for yourself, coworkers, clients, and other trades.
· Ensure quality control: Inspect fit, finish, alignment, hardware, power/data readiness, and overall presentation before client sign-off.
· Maintain accurate documentation: Complete required paperwork, installation notes, punch lists, work records, photos, and project closeout documentation as needed.
Decommission Services (Approximately 40%)
· Oversee strategic tear-downs: Lead the efficient disassembly and removal of outgoing furniture assets while minimizing disruption to client operations and building activity.
· Evaluate assets: Use commercial furniture knowledge to identify items for knock-down, reuse, resale, refurbishment, recycling, donation, or disposal.
· Manage site restoration: Coordinate broom-clean exits, including removal of furniture debris, trash, loose parts, and related materials in accordance with client expectations and lease-end requirements.
· Coordinate logistics: Organize staging, loading, truck packing, palletizing, and transport of decommissioned goods to the TJ Office Furniture facility, client-designated locations, or recycling partners.
· Protect client spaces: Safeguard elevators, flooring, walls, docks, common areas, and building finishes throughout move-out and decommission activities.
Working at Client Locations
· Client advocacy: Use your sales, service, and field experience to help clients make smart decisions during transitions - what to install, what to keep, what to retire, and what may create additional value.
· Critical Thinking: Bring calm, practical problem-solving to every site, whether resolving a missing-part issue during an install, adjusting to field conditions, or navigating a tight loading dock schedule during a move-out.
· Full-service mindset: Represent TJ Office Furniture professionally from first delivery through final site clearance, helping clients experience a smooth, reliable, and service-focused process.
Required Qualifications
· Commercial office furniture experience: 3+ years of experience in commercial furniture installation, systems furniture, office moves, decommissions, or related field work, with proven ability to lead crews and projects.
· Installation knowledge: Ability to assemble, reconfigure, level, adjust, and troubleshoot modular systems, casegoods, private offices, collaborative workspaces, and related furniture components.
· Plan-reading ability: Strong understanding of drawings, floor plans, elevations, field measurements, and jobsite documentation.
· Service and communication skills: Professional communication style with the ability to manage client stress, coordinate with internal teams, and identify opportunities for TJ Office Furniture to provide additional value.
· Operational savvy: Strong working knowledge of loading, staging, truck packing, palletizing, inventory sorting, and protection of client buildings during installation and removal work.
· Physical stamina: Ability to perform consistent hands-on assembly, disassembly, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and standing throughout the workday.
· Driver qualification: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required; experience operating up to a 26-foot box truck is highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with commercial furniture liquidation, resale, refurbishment, recycling, or warehouse sorting processes.
· Familiarity with power/data coordination, panel systems, workstation components, and common commercial furniture manufacturers.
· Experience communicating directly with facility managers, property managers, general contractors, designers, or business owners.
· Comfort using basic hand tools, power tools, carts, dollies, pallet jacks, and jobsite equipment safely and efficiently.
