Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Teacher Assistant to join our educational team and support the learning and development of students with diverse needs. Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, including literacy, math, and social skills development
- Provide physical assistance and behavioral support to students with disabilities or behavioral disorders in daily activities and classroom routines
- Support students with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities through tailored strategies such as communication techniques including American Sign Language (ASL)
- Help manage classroom behavior using positive behavior management techniques and support individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
- Collaborate with teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to develop and execute effective student support strategies
- Support classroom organization by preparing materials, maintaining supplies, and ensuring a safe learning environment in accordance with confidentiality policies
- Assist with documentation related to student progress, behavior incidents, IEP goals, and other confidential information handling
Skills
- Experience working with children and students with disabilities in educational or childcare settings
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and early childhood education best practices
- Familiarity with special education laws such as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and IEP processes
- Strong communication skills for effectively interacting with students, colleagues, parents, and specialists
- Classroom management skills to foster a positive learning environment for diverse learners
- Ability to implement behavior management strategies tailored to individual student needs
- Proficiency in curriculum development, lesson planning, literacy education, basic math skills, and supporting students’ social-emotional growth
- Experience working with individuals who have autism spectrum disorders or developmental disabilities is highly desirable
- Ability to provide physical assistance for students requiring mobility or daily activity support
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus for supporting communication needs
