Location: Salt Lake City, Utah | Hybrid, 2–3 days/week

A Day in the Life of the Medical Director
In this role, you'll provide medical and scientific leadership across our client's Phase 1 clinical trials, including first-in-human, dose-escalation, and other early-phase studies. You'll be the go-to physician for participant safety, protocol interpretation, and clinical decision-making, while also representing the organization in front of sponsors, CROs, and industry partners. This is a chance to help lay the medical and scientific foundation for a growing early-phase research program built on a long track record of successful clinical research.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing medical oversight for Phase 1 and early-phase trials, including first-in-human, single/multiple ascending dose, bioavailability, bioequivalence, and drug-drug interaction studies
- Serving as the primary medical resource for participant safety, adverse events, and protocol interpretation
- Reviewing protocols, investigator brochures, informed consent forms, and safety data
- Evaluating study feasibility and advising on dosing, safety monitoring, and participant populations
- Participating in safety reviews, dose-escalation decisions, and safety monitoring committees
- Serving as Principal Investigator for select Phase 1 studies as needed
- Ensuring trials are conducted per GCP, applicable regulations, and organizational policy
- Providing clinical guidance to sub-investigators, nurses, coordinators, and research staff
- Representing the organization in sponsor/CRO meetings, site-selection visits, bid defenses, and audits
- Building and maintaining relationships with pharma, biotech, CRO, and industry partners
- Contributing medical/scientific insight to business development and proposal review
- Helping develop medical policies, SOPs, safety plans, and physician coverage models
- Advising on staffing, equipment, lab/pharmacy support, and future therapeutic-area expansion
- Supporting inspection readiness and responding to regulatory/IRB questions on medical oversight
Requirements and Qualifications:
- MD or DO from an accredited institution
- Active, unrestricted Utah medical license (or ability to obtain one)
- Direct first-in-human/early-phase trial experience
- Experience as PI, Medical Director, medical monitor, sub-investigator, or similar
- Sponsor/CRO-facing presence and established industry connections
- FDA/ICH-GCP knowledge, participant safety, AE management, investigator
- Strong presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills
