POSITION PURPOSE
Provide friendly, courteous, and efficient food and beverage service while delivering an exceptional guest experience. This dual-role position is responsible for preparing high-quality coffee, espresso, and specialty beverages while serving as the primary coffee specialist for the restaurant. When coffee order volume is low, the Barista provides full-service restaurant support by greeting guests, taking food and beverage orders, serving meals, processing payments, setting and clearing tables, maintaining clean and organized work areas, and performing other food service-related duties. Flexibility and the ability to seamlessly transition between barista and server responsibilities are essential to supporting the overall success of the restaurant.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and serve specialty coffee, espresso beverages, teas, and other hot and cold beverages according to company recipes and quality standards.

Prepare pastries and other café items while ensuring product quality and presentation.

Educate guests on coffee selections, brewing methods, and specialty beverage offerings when appropriate.

Greet guests promptly, take food and beverage orders, answer menu questions, and make recommendations, including identifying upselling opportunities.

Provide full-service restaurant support by serving food and beverages, monitoring guest satisfaction, and ensuring an exceptional dining experience.

Operate the POS system, accurately process cash and credit card transactions, and follow all company cash handling procedures.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the coffee station, dining room, service areas, equipment, utensils, and workspaces.

Ensure coffee, beverage, condiment, and restaurant supplies are stocked and readily available throughout each shift.

Follow all food safety, sanitation, health, security, and company operating standards.

Inspect equipment to ensure it is clean and functioning properly, reporting maintenance or repair needs promptly.

Maintain professionalism and composure during high-volume periods while supporting overall restaurant operations.

Assist with opening and closing duties, side work, bussing and resetting tables, stocking supplies, and other operational tasks as needed.

Properly handle all food, beverages, equipment, and supplies in accordance with company and health department standards.

Perform all other duties as assigned by managers and supervisors.
Due to the nature of restaurant operations, job duties may vary throughout each shift based on guest demand. Employees are expected to perform both barista and server responsibilities as assigned to support operational needs.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Environmental conditions are inside, a job is considered inside if staff spends approximately 75 percent or more of the time inside. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.

Must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F), possible for one (1) hour or more.

Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to four (4) hours in length.

Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.

Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis.

Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs. as needed.

Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs.

Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.

Hearing, smelling, tasting, and visual ability to observe and distinguish product quality and detect signs of emergency situations.

Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with other staff, guests, and supervisors.

Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near and color vision and depth perception.

Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally.

Ability to work primarily with fingers to pick, pinch, type and carry out substantial movements (motions) of the wrists and hands as well.

Must have a strong knowledge of drink preparation and applicable health standards.
EDUCATION
High school or equivalent education required.
EXPERIENCE

One to three years food service experience preferred.

One year customer service experience required.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS

Utah Food Handler Permit (required or must be obtained within 14 days of employment).

Utah Alcohol Server Certification (On-Premise) (required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
GROOMING
All Staff Members must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per Azul Hospitality standards. Refer to the property specific required grooming and uniform standards policy.
ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Azul Hospitality, from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Staff with irregular attendance / tardiness will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Upon employment, all staff is required to fully comply with Azul Hospitality rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotels facilities. Staff members who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, staff members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
