As an HES Technician, you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and improving our HES programs. This role involves ensuring full compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, performing inspections, managing hazardous materials, and promoting a proactive culture of safety throughout our operations.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to expand your technical expertise. You will work closely with the HES Manager to implement company safety programs, while actively collaborating with our internal departments to bridge workplace safety with our core manufacturing operations.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and all relevant local, state, and federal regulations. (SDS management)
- Hazardous Materials Management: Oversee the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in alignment with legal requirements and company policy.
- Process & Manufacturing Collaboration: Work closely with the process group on waste management control and manufacturing processes. As time allows, you will also assist the process group with cross-departmental projects to deepen your understanding of our equipment and production systems.
- Facility Inspections: Conduct routine safety inspections of equipment and processes to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response procedures, lead drills, and coordinate first aid/CPR training.
- Safety Training: Facilitate comprehensive safety training programs for staff, focusing on protocols, equipment usage, and emergency responses.
- Incident Reporting: Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
- Environmental Monitoring: Conduct impact assessments and track emissions to ensure operational alignment with environmental standards.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of audits, training, and inspections; prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Waste Treatment Operations: Manage daily operations, including sampling, POTW reporting, and annual inspections with the POTW coordinator.
- Safety Committee: Facilitate monthly safety committee meetings.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety (EH&S), Occupational Safety, or a related field is preferable but not required.
- Experience: Preference given to candidates with 2 years of experience in an HES role, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial setting (relevant internal facility experience will be highly valued).
- Chemistry Knowledge: Ability to understand basic chemistry principles, chemical reactions, and the safety protocols associated with material handling.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Able to comprehend OSHA regulations, EPA guidelines, and hazardous material protocols.
- Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour General Industry, First Aid, and CPR certifications are preferred. Note: Required certifications must be completed within 120 days of hire (training support provided).
- Skills: Exceptional problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail; effective communication skills for interacting across various internal departments.
- Software: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to store, retrieve, and present data clearly.
- Must be able to perform site inspections, lift to 50 pounds, and work in a variety of manufacturing environmental conditions and the ability to move 55-gallon drums using carts.
- This position may involve occasional travel to customer sites or external regulatory agencies.
