American Traveler is hiring a contract Occupational Therapist with acute care experience for a specialized heart hospital in Austin, TX, working day shifts in a small, highly collaborative therapy department.

Work in the Physical/Occupational Therapy department of a specialized heart hospital
-
72-bed facility spanning floors 1–3
-
Day shift schedule, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM
-
Rotating weekend coverage approximately every 3–4 weekends
-
No on-call requirements
-
Patient population includes open heart surgery, TAVR, and LVAD implant cases
-
Small therapy team consisting of 2 PTs, 1 OT, and PRN Speech Therapy

EMR: Meditech
-
Active OT license (license required if applicable)

Minimum 1 year of OT experience; allied candidates must have at least 6 months of experience within the last 6 months
-
Acute care experience required, including ICU/CCU, as the OT may be the sole therapist on weekends

Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment start)

US SSN and DOB required for consideration — no Canadian SSNs accepted

One professional reference required (two required for Florida and Missouri)

No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — no local candidates accepted

Wound care experience is preferred but not required

Procedures commonly encountered include open heart surgery recovery, TAVR, and LVAD implant cases

Staff uses iMobile to communicate with hospitalists, case managers, and RNs throughout the day
-
Supportive team environment with experienced permanent staff (15 and 30+ years of experience), including a certified wound care therapist

Strong interdisciplinary communication between therapy and providers is a hallmark of this small hospital setting

Scrub color requirement: Caribbean blue top or khaki bottoms with a navy polo
