Lead Medical Assistant (CMA / RMA/CCMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Rheumatology

About the Role
We are seeking a leadership-minded, highly skilled Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to serve as the Clinical Lead for our small, fast-paced outpatient Rheumatology clinic. In this role, you will assist management to oversee a dedicated team of 4–5 clinical staff members while balancing direct patient care. You will ensure clinical operations run seamlessly, manage complex document and prior authorization workflows essential to rheumatology, and maintain high standards of clinical excellence.
What You’ll Do
- Clinical Leadership: Supervise daily back-office operations for 4–5 clinical staff members, coordinate tasks, and serve as the main point of contact for workflow issues.
- Biologic & Infusion Management: Oversee the prior authorization process for specialty biologic therapies and coordinate tracking for in-office infusions.
- Patient Intake & Rooming: Efficiently room patients, capture precise vital signs, perform comprehensive medication reconciliations, and document patient preferences (pharmacy, labs, and external provider circles).
- Data & Document Care: Manage the review, internal routing, and filing of critical incoming documents, including tracking complex lab results and external consult notes.
- Quality Control: Maintain clinic compliance, manage medical supply inventory, and ensure clinical equipment is correctly calibrated and maintained.
What We’re Looking For
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/CCMA or RMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- For MAs - we are looking for certification recognized by national organizations: AAMA (for CMA), AMT (for RMA), NHA (for CCMA), NCCT (for NCMA) or NRCMA (NAHP). Medical assistant school is the education and your diploma. Certification comes from one of the organizations above.
- Active certification/licensure required
- At least 2-5 years of outpatient clinical experience
- EMR experience: Highly tech-savvy with extensive experience navigating complex electronic medical records systems.
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Leadership skills and goals
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-based environment
Preferred but not required:
- Direct experience working in a Rheumatology or chronic-care specialty clinic.
- Specific, advanced proficiency with the eClinicalWorks (eCW) EMR platform.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
- IV Certification (highly preferred for LPN applicants) or hands-on experience assisting with in-office infusions.
This position is Monday - Friday and may require travel between the practice's two locations.
