Full-Time Painter / Faux Finisher - Job Description
We are a full-service scenic company that provides scenery and staging for all types of Events, Corporate Meetings, Themed Environments and Broadcast Media Productions. We work closely with organizations to provide the latest, most innovative, and creative methods in transforming ideas into a reality that will captivate and motivate any audience.
We are currently seeking a Full-Time Scenic Artist to work in our Scenic Paint Shop. As part of an exciting industry, we offer a rewarding experience working on a wide variety of projects.
Experience in the following area is preferred:
· 2-3 years technical and trade experience in theme painting and air brush painting
· general painting,
· operation of conventional spray gun, airless sprayer, HVLP sprayer,
· color matching
· working knowledge of paint products and their application in painting;
· faux finishing techniques.
Core Responsibilities
· Painting various props (ex. – wood graining, aging, textures) to match existing surfaces.
· Preparing surfaces for painting; using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool, and removing old paint form surfaces, using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch.
· Prepping and painting new surfaces for new construction and remodels; Filling nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler, using caulking gun and putty knife.
· Specialized painting and Faux Techniques, new work and touch up.
· Selecting premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
· Simulating wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects.
· Applying paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.
· Equipment cleaning, care, and maintenance.
· Understanding and demonstrating the proper use of safety practices and ensures department standards are maintained and safety policies for Southwest Scenic Group.
Work Environment
- Industry Context: Events, theater, staging, and media productions—so inventory may include large set pieces, stage platforms, backdrops, rigging, props, and technical gear.
- Fast-paced & Variable: Often tied to the production/event schedule, which means busy periods before and after events.
- Team-Oriented: You will coordinate with event setup crews, fabricators, and production managers.

- Schedule: Regular 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday, but with overtime when events require it.
