Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks across diverse routes, including OTR driving routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts when necessary, ensuring cargo integrity and safety.
- Transport a variety of cargo types, including hazardous materials (hazmat), dangerous goods, refrigerated items, and specialized loads like tanker or flatbed freight.
- Use GPS navigation systems to follow optimized routes, adapt to traffic conditions, and meet delivery schedules efficiently.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking for hazards related to hazardous materials regulations and truck maintenance needs.
- Document delivery details accurately in logs, complete shift reports, incident reports, and maintain detailed records of cargo handling activities.
- Ensure compliance with all FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazard materials regulations, and safety protocols during loading, transportation, and unloading processes.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the vehicle type operated (e.g., hazmat endorsement if applicable).
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving and delivery driving.
- Familiarity with different truck types such as tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks.
- Ability to handle manual transmission vehicles confidently; experience with manual handling is essential.
- Knowledge of logistics cargo handling procedures for freight of varying sizes and types.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, hazardous materials regulations, and safety procedures related to truck loading/unloading.
- Experience operating equipment like forklifts or dump trucks is a plus but not mandatory.
- Excellent navigation skills using GPS systems; ability to adapt quickly to route changes or unexpected delays.
